Brevard County Murder Suspect Appears In Court
(Titusville, FL) --Investigators believe they have found a motive in a deadly mass shooting in Brevard County. Rockledge's Domenico Gigante was in court yesterday after his arrest Wednesday. The 36-year-old allegedly killed his 15-year-old daughter, his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend and two others in a home in Canaveral Groves. Investigators revealed yesterday that Gigante was upset that his daughter didn't want him around anymore. He's charged with four counts of first-degree murder.
Bond Granted For Woman Accused Of Killing Husband At Hospital
(Daytona Beach, FL) -- A woman accused of shooting and killing her terminally ill husband at a Volusia County hospital could be released from jail soon. A judge granted a 150-thousand dollar bond for 76-year-old Ellen Gilland during a hearing yesterday. Under the agreement, she is not allowed to have access to any guns and is banned from going to a hospital unless it's for a medical emergency. Gilland was arrested in January at AdventHealth Daytona Beach following a four-hour long standoff with police. Her charges were downgraded last week by a grand jury to assisting in a self-murder.
Derailed Train Raises Concern In Manatee County
(Bradenton, FL) --A train derailment in Manatee County is exposing serious issues with our nation's infrastructure. That's what County Commission Chair Kevin VanOstenbridge [[OSS-tin-bridge]] said yesterday about this week's incident near 16th Street East. A train full of 30-thousand gallons of propane went off the tracks Tuesday. No one was hurt, and there was no leak reported. The train was on its side until it was put upright last night. It'll be moved this morning. Investigators believe the century-old tracks are to blame for the derailment. VanOstenbridge tells ABC Action News he hopes federal authorities are paying attention.
Florida Keys Could Be Exempt From Affordable Housing Bill
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Lawmakers are working on legislation to create more affordable housing throughout almost all of Florida. However, a bill filed by Monroe County Representative Jim Mooney yesterday could block the Florida Keys from taking part in the initiative. The county is listed as an area of critical state concern, which means the state limits growth in the region. If approved, the new measure would uphold that order. This means construction for affordable or workforce housing units would be prohibited in the Keys for at least the next five years.
Whataburger Named Healthiest Fast Food Burger
(Undated) -- There's big news for anyone that feels guilty after eating Whataburger. A new study from gambling-dot-com says the Texas icon has the healthiest cheeseburger among popular fast food restaurants. The website looked at the fat, sugar, sodium, and calories of several well-known burgers. It found the Whataburger with cheese was the healthiest out of all of the options. In-and-Out's cheeseburger came in second place followed by Checkers' Checkerburger with cheese in third.
