DeSantis Claims Disney CEO Complained About Pressure From Activists

(Washington, DC)-- In his new book, Governor Ron DeSantis reveals some details of his showdown with Disney. DeSantis' book, 'The Courage to be Free: Florida's Blueprint for American Revival' is due out tomorrow. Fox News Digital reports today that DeSantis writes about a phone call he got from Disney CEO Bob Chapek [[ CHAY-peck ]] about the Parental Rights in Education bill. That's the bill critics called the Don't Say Gay bill. DeSantis writes that Chapek told him he didn't want the company to get involved, but he was getting a lot of pressure to weigh in against the bill. Chapek also reportedly said the amount of pressure was at a level he had never seen before. 

Nikki Fried Tapped To Lead Florida's Democratic Party

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Nikki Fried is the new leader of Florida's Democratic Party. Party officials say the 45-year-old was elected yesterday afternoon in Orlando. She replaces Manny Diaz, who stepped down after Florida Democrats fared poorly in the 2022 state elections. In her first public announcement as party chair, Fried said she will commit to rebuilding the Democratic Party "from the ground up" and "focus on voter registration, training and expanding progressive coalitions."

Threats Reported At DCPS Schools

(Jacksonville, FL)-- There will be heightened security at two schools in Duval County today. Duval County Public Schools announced last night that shooting threats were reported at two middle schools, Landmark and Oceanway. First Coast News reports both schools will be open today, but students will be screened and their belongings will be checked. Police are investigating the threats.

Port Canaveral Tops Miami As World's Busiest Cruise Port

(Port Canaveral, FL)-- Port Canaveral is now the world's busiest cruise port. Industry rankings released this week show Port Canaveral had over four-million-72-thousand multi-day passengers last year, about 50-thousand more than long-time leader Port Miami. Industry analysts believe Canaveral won't wear the crown very many more years, with Miami expected to grow to more than eight-million passengers by 2027.

'Dilbert' Comic Strip Dropped By Newspapers Following Creator's Racist Remarks

(Undated) -- The long-running comic strip "Dilbert" is being dropped from multiple newspapers following racist comments by creator Scott Adams. Adams said Black Americans were a "hate group" and said white people should get away from them in a YouTube video earlier in the week. Publications under the USA Today and Advance Local networks decided to drop the comic, which has been in publication for almost 35 years. Adams has been under fire since as far back as 2015 for comments against both President Biden and the Black Lives Matter movement.

New "Grinch" Book Announced

(New York, NY)-- A sequel is being published to the 1957 Dr. Seuss book, "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." "How the Grinch Lost Christmas" will pick up a year after the original story, and will show the Grinch trying to win the Whoville Christmas Crown by making the best Christmas tree. The book is an official sequel, but is not based on anything from the Dr. Seuss archives. "How the Grinch Lost Christmas" will be released in September.
