DeSantis Reaffirms Vow To Reform State's Capital Sentencing

(Jacksonville, FL)-- Governor Ron DeSantis is reaffirming his vow to reform Florida's capital sentencing process. The governor made the declaration exactly five years after the deadly Parkland school mass shooting in South Florida. He criticized the ruling last year to sentence the convicted shooter to life in prison. He went on to say the state is working on a way to remove the required unanimous vote for the death penalty.

Murder Suspect Ruled Incompetent To Stand Trial

(Daytona Beach, FL)-- A man accused of murder in Volusia County is not competent to stand trial. That's what a judge said yesterday about Jean Macean [[muh-KEEN]]. The 33-year-old is accused of killing a couple in Daytona Beach last year during Bike Week. The judge ruled that Macean lacks the ability to analyze his legal options, and he can't testify relevantly or appropriately help his lawyers with his defense. She ordered Macean to be handed over to DCF, which has 90 days to determine if he needs more treatment or can go to trial.

The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach area took the second spot due to a smaller increase. However, South Florida still saw a January inflation rate close to ten-percent.

Audit Finds USF Overcharged For Remote Classes

(Tampa, FL)-- The University of South Florida may owe students millions of dollars. The results of an audit released yesterday found USF overcharged students who studied remotely over the last three years by more than eight-and-a-half million dollars. The school hasn't said if it'll refund the money to students who paid the distance learning fees.
