Man Arrested After Threats Of Violence
(Jacksonville, FL)-- A man is in Jacksonville police custody after reportedly threatening violence against "local schools, children and himself." The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Christopher Ciccone sent "written threats to conduct a mass shooting." Ciccone "claimed to be in possession of various fully automatic weapons. "Police were called to the San Pablo Road area and found the suspect after searching suspected "known locations".
Brevard County School Board Discusses Discipline Issues
(Viera, FL)-- A Brevard County School Board member believes discipline problems may be underreported. The board discussed student discipline at a workshop yesterday. Interim Superintendent Dr. Robert Schiller said 66 students have been suspended this school year for major misuses of electronic devices, but District One board member Megan Wright believes that doesn't tell the whole story. She says the real number would be significantly higher if more teachers reported students for violating the policy. Wright tells News 6 many teachers aren't willing to take on that battle.
Four Arrested For School Vandalism At Volusia County School
(Port Orange, FL)-- Four teenagers are facing charges for vandalizing a school in Volusia County. Port Orange Police announced yesterday they have arrested two 14-year-olds, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old. The four allegedly broke into Spruce Creek Elementary School on Taylor Road on Sunday by smashing some windows. Once inside, police say they damaged two storage sheds and several portable classrooms.Damages were estimated at 30-thousand dollars. The teens are charged with felony criminal mischief, burglary and trespassing on school grounds.
Pinellas County Sheriff Supports New Gun Bill
(Tallahassee, FL)-- A new gun bill has the support of a local sheriff. Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri addressed a House committee in Tallahassee yesterday. The committee was discussing a bill that would allow some to carry a concealed weapon in certain places without a permit. Gualtieri said permits wouldn't do much good since a criminal wouldn't bother to get a permit, and some training nowadays is meaningless because it's done online. He also says the bill excludes those who aren't allowed to carry a gun, like convicted felons or those who have been committed to a mental hospital.
Driver Takes Sip Of Beer During Traffic Stop
(Madisonville, KY)-- Police in Western Kentucky say a man took a swig of beer during a routine traffic stop. Jordan Craig was initially pulled over for going more than 80 miles per hour in a residential area. The officer reported seeing an open can of beer in the car and that Craig drank from it when he went to run his license. The 25-year-old failed field sobriety tests and told the officer at one point he forgot how to count. Officials say his blood alcohol level was just over point-one-two.
Valentine's Day Spending Expected To Reach Nearly $26 Billion In U.S.
(Washington, DC)-- Americans will spend big on Valentine's Day. The National Retail Federation expects consumers to shell out nearly 26-billion dollars on the holiday this year. That works out to an average of about 193-dollars per person for flowers, cards, candy and other gifts for friends, loved ones and even coworkers. It's also about 20-bucks more than last year's average. A separate report by WalletHub finds almost one-in-five Americans think it's okay to use a credit card to pay for that special Valentine's Day gift.
