Florida Supreme Court To Review Recreational Marijuana Proposal

(Tallahassee, FL) --The choice to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida is one step closer to going on the 2024 ballot. A proposed constitutional amendment has cleared its first obstacle. A campaign funded by the state's largest medical marijuana operator, Trulieve, launched a petition and received more than 200-thousand signatures. That was enough to send the measure straight to the state Supreme Court. The high court now will review the proposal and is likely to have a decision this spring.

House Bill Gives DeSantis Power To Appoint Reedy Creek Board

(Tallahassee, FL) --The governor could get the power to shape the board that governs Disney World. St. Cloud State Rep. Fred Hawkins filed a bill yesterday in Tallahassee that allows Governor Ron DeSantis to appoint all five unpaid members of the board. Those picks would have to be approved by the state senate. Right now, Disney appoints the members. Also, under HB 9-B, the Reedy Creek Improvement District would be renamed the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District. Disney says regardless of what happens, it'll remain committed to providing the highest quality in experiences for the millions of guests who visit each year.

Mass Shooting Suspect Dies After Crash

(Lakeland, FL) --A man wanted for a mass shooting in Polk County is dead. Sheriff Grady Judd said yesterday that Alex Greene fled an FDLE traffic strop in Eagle Lake. Lakeland Police pursued Greene into Winter Haven where Greene ditched the truck and made a run for it on Havendale Boulevard. He allegedly stole a car outside Andrea's Family Restaurant and drove it straight at a police officer, who fired six rounds at the car. At least one shot hit Greene, but he kept going until he crashed into a vacant building. The 21-year-old was hurt and was taken to the hospital where he passed away. Greene was a suspect in a shooting last week in Lakeland in which 11 people were hurt.

Vandals Strike At Volusia County School

(Port Orange, FL) --Four people are wanted for vandalizing a school in Volusia County. Port Orange Police posted surveillance images on Facebook yesterday of the damage at Spruce Creek Elementary School on Taylor Road. The vandals apparently struck Sunday morning and smashed windows in the main building to gain entry. They also damaged several portable classrooms and two storage sheds. Police estimate the damages at 30-thousand dollars, but that could go up after a complete inventory of stolen items is done.

Tampa Bars Sue Over Dog Restrictions

(Tampa, FL) --A Tampa bar is suing the state over restrictions on dogs. Pups Pub Tampa on West Kennedy Boulevard sued the Florida Department of Health last week. The bar claims the DOH order banning dogs is a reversal of an earlier decision to allow dogs in dog-friendly bars. Lawyers for the bar argue the recent ruling banning dogs should be struck down.

Janitor Locked In Cell For Three Days Plans To Sue Orange County

(Orlando, FL) --A woman plans to sue after she was accidentally locked in a cell at the Orange County Courthouse for three days. Libia Vargas De Dinas works as a janitor, and last month, while cleaning a cell, the door closed and locked her inside. The 72-year-old couldn't reach her phone or open the door, so she remained there without food and her diabetes medicine for over 50 hours. Vargas De Dinas plans to sue the courthouse's security team, Allied Universal, for not doing a thorough search that could have found her. Her lawyer recently told Channel 9 it was a nightmare, and she's pretty traumatized.

Florida Experience Most Shark Attacks Worldwide

(Gainesville, FL) --Florida is experiencing more shark attacks compared to anywhere else in the world. Researchers with the University of Florida released their annual International Shark Attack File. The data shows the state reported 16 shark bites in unprovoked encounters off its coast last year. None of the incidents were fatal, but two resulted in amputations. The number is lower than previous years, which experts attribute to a global drop in the shark population. In the United States, Florida made up 39-percent of all shark bites.

Tom Brady: I'll Start My Broadcast Career In 2024

(Los Angeles, CA) --Tom Brady says he's going to most likely start his broadcasting career with Fox in the fall of next year. Brady revealed the news during Colin Cowherd's show "The Herd." The seven-time Super Bowl winner announced his retirement last week. Brady signed a ten-year deal worth 375-million-dollars to become the number one football analyst for the network once he retired. The longtime quarterback said "decompression is important" and he wants to "take some time to really learn [ and ] become great" at what he wants to do.

KY Cops Warn Of Free Coffee & Donuts Scam

(Georgetown, KY) --Police in one Kentucky town are passing along a heads-up about a scam targeting coffee drinkers. Cops in Georgetown, north of Lexington, say a link is being circulated around the web offering free coffee and donuts. Clicking on the link will release a virus which will allow typing only in all caps. Police say don't be fooled as there's no free coffee or donuts.
