It was a surprise trip to the Mountain State. After our Friday, January 27th show I got a call from my sister. It’s not unusual for her to call; we talk multiple times a week. This call was different; our mother had died. Mom was reasonably healthy for her 85 years; her clock had simply run out. The result was a week that I had not anticipated and maybe the best experience around a funeral I have ever had.
It’s what I do…so there is a stack of stories from my time away that we have not had the chance to explore. We’ll tackle some of those as we catch up this week. If something in particular caught your attention, feel free to bring it up. Dave Bowman will join us with our weekly look at history as we close our day. Here’s a peek:
The first American Civil War was every bit as vicious and hate-filled as the second. And, like the second, it eventually resulted in amending the US Constitutional to try and make things better.
It led to an intense debate during ratification over the concept of State Sovereignty, and then went before the US Supreme Court, where the court... got it "wrong."
On February 7, 1794 We the People of the United States made that absolutely clear.
Or... did we?
We find out in hour-three with DAVE DOES HISTORY.
