Here’s a recap of the week…

BML Monday: Aren’t M&M’s Already Inclusive?

…McCarthy Wins 15 Round Bout

As we’ll find out in today’s Research & Reality, we are tired of WOKE. I’m not sure if they mean the word, the use of the word or the woke things we see every day, but we continue with more of woke IN A HANDBASKET this morning. And of all things to be woke, we have candy!

Is there tolerance for crime? I mean by anyone other than the California Assembly. It would seem so. One corporation seems to be regretting its position on shoplifting over the last year or so. It makes no sense to me. So, tell me, how much crime is tolerable?

It took 15 round of voting and some intense negotiations, but we finally have a Speaker of the House. It was a donnybrook to get there and we almost had fisticuffs along the way as the House almost turned into British Parliament. We’ll take a look at getting to this point and why, most likely, it was a good exercise in American government.

Given time, we’ll hit Governor Ron DeSantis activating the National Guard to combat illegal immigration and the drive to make Disney a “normal” corporate citizen sans the privileges it has enjoyed since Disney World’s inception.

BML Tuesday: Gas, Guns & Glory

DAVE DOES HISTORY

The Biden administration seems determined to kill American energy production. A new study has natural gas stoves on the target list. So much for cooking with gas.

Disney may be waking from its WOKE dreams. Employees who have been working from home since the pandemic workplace adjustments are going to be headed back to the office. This could be a good idea for a lot of businesses.

We’re going to live in Royce World for a bit today. We have three stories involving firearms and our rights. Things could be looking up.

Dave Bowman joins us in hour-three with DAVE DOES HISTORY. There are similarities with today’s United States and ancient Rome:

In many ways, the United States always resembled republican Rome. By the last half of the first century bce, the republic was teetering on the edge. Corrupt politics, mounting debt to fund foreign wars, societal breakdowns that left long held traditional values in disrespect and disregard combined to have the everyday Roman wondering if the world had gone completely mad.

As we look around our nation today, the parallels must be striking. The question is what happens next? Do we recover our republican form of government and manage to solve the innumerable problems that mushroom into full blown crises? If so... given how chaotic things seem today,

Or... is there some leader out there who is determined to cross the Rubicon?

Dave will take us on the comparative journey that he does so well.

BML: WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY

…what’s it going to be?

What’s it going to be? Topics on today’s show are up to you. When we go to the phones you can talk anything you like. Give us the gist of it, lay out your thoughts and let us consider what’s on YOUR mind.

I’ll be starting in higher education where the misuse of words, redefining them, if you will, is a tool of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion crowd. If you have to create a lie to make your point, just maybe your point isn’t valid in the first place!

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders is bringing common sense to government in her state. It brings to mind the difference in officials who actually work for the people and those who have another agenda in mind. Arkansas’ legislature is following suit, while Minnesota is going the other way.

It’s the one day of the week where your topics drive the show…let’s get to it.

BML Friday: Friday the 13th

…superstition origins and practice

When I was a student athlete, as difficult as that may be to imagine now, I had superstitions. They varied though the years, but they were there. I would wear a sweatband when playing basketball.  If we had a winning streak, I would not wash the sweatband until we lost. If I was having a particularly good week of practice, I’d wear the same socks without washing them for the week. Fortunately that one didn’t last long.

I am, at times, accused of being too regimented- anal- if you will. While I reject the anal label, I do like a regimented lifestyle. Is that a superstition?

With today being Friday the 13th, a day that is surrounded by superstition (and the occasional scary movie) I thought we’d explore superstitions and share those we may or may have practiced from time to time. And if you want to throw in a favorite scary movie, I’m OK with that, too.

In our usual fare, pilots are frustrated with the FAA, but not for the reason you may think. When you hear it, you’ll be aggravated, too.

Locally, Sheriff Wayne Ivey has been defending deputies who dealt with a knife wielding man in a less severe way than they could have. Firearms could, some would argue should, have been the answer. They were criticized anyway. Let’s play a round of YOU BE THE COP. What would you have done?

By the way, knocking on wood won’t help you in this situation.
