NOAA Believes Humans Not Involved In Orca's Death

(Palm Coast, FL) -- NOAA is sharing more details about a killer whale who was found dead on a Flagler County Beach this week. Scientists say the 21-foot female orca appeared to be sick when it beached itself in Palm Coast. NOAA explained that a team worked through the night to collect samples after the roughly five-thousand pound whale was discovered yesterday. They found no signs of human interaction. This is the first time a killer whale was reported stranded in the southeast region of the United States.

More Migrants Found In South Florida

(Virginia Key, FL)-- US Border officials are dealing with more migrants who tried to make their way to South Florida. The US Border Patrol Miami Sector says 25 Haitian migrants, including children, made landfall yesterday in Virginia Key. Miami Fire Rescue says they were at sea for five days, and one man was taken to the hospital for mild hypothermia. Border officials say there were two other migrant landings yesterday.Fifteen Cubans made it to Long Key State Park, and 21 Cubans came ashore on the Marquesas Keys. 

Volusia County Doctor Under Investigation For Sexual Assault

(Ormond Beach, FL)-- A Volusia County doctor is under investigation for sexual assault. Dr. Scott Hollington runs Advanced Practice Nursing Services in Ormond Beach on Memorial Circle. Two women in St. Johns County recently came forward to accuse Hollington of sexual assault at his office in St. Augustine. Ormond Beach Police ask any other potential victims to come forward.   

HillsCo School Board Approves Sex Ed Curriculum

(Tampa, FL)-- The Hillsborough County School District will move forward with a controversial curriculum. The school board voted yesterday to approve the district's sex ed curriculum for middle schools. Some parents who oppose the curriculum circulated a petition to get it changed. They claim it's too graphic for a 12-year-old, could lead to gender confusion and violates state law by not emphasizing abstinence. A board member who voted for the curriculum says just because it teaches how to stay safe doesn't mean it encourages becoming sexually active. Another board member pointed out that parents can opt out of the curriculum.

Clearwater Reveals City Hasn't Recycled In Six Months

(Clearwater, FL)-- Clearwater's mayor says he's appalled over a breach of trust with the city's residents. Interim City Manager Jennifer Poirier confirmed yesterday the city hasn't been recycling since July. The city was supposed to bring recyclables to Waste Management in Tampa, but instead, those items were going to the Pinellas County Solid Waste Disposal Complex. The city's assistant solid waste director resigned this week when confronted by Poirier. She says the city is taking recyclables to Waste Management every day until an affordable long-term solution is found. Mayor Frank Hibbard tells the Tampa Bay Times what happened is unacceptable, and the city will need to regain the people's trust.     

Soccer Referee Attacked By Player In Miami-Dade County

(Miami, FL)-- A man is lucky to be alive after he was attacked during a soccer game he was refereeing in Miami-Dade County. That's what the man's lawyer says after a player is seen on video punching his client in the head and kicking another referee Sunday night at Kendall Soccer Park on Southwest 127th Ave. The attorney says if his client had been hit just two centimeters to the left or right, he may not have survived. He also tells 7News his client plans to press charges. Miami-Dade Police say they're investigating.   

Brevard County Dairy Queen Closing After 50 Years

(Merritt Island, FL)-- A business that has been open for over 50 years in Brevard County will close for good. The owners of a Merritt Island Dairy Queen on North Courtenay Parkway recently announced they'll be shutting down next month. The restaurant opened in 1965, and the current owners took over almost 30 years ago. They say Dairy Queen Corporate has been putting unrealistic demands on them that would force them to lose their vision of a sweet, simple, nostalgic community ice cream store. News 6 reports the store's final day will be Sunday, February 5th.

Federal Intelligence Agencies Report Influx Of UFO Cases Since March 2021

(Washington, DC)-- Federal intelligence agencies have received an influx of UFO cases since March of 2021. More than 360 cases were added to the 144 documented over the 17 years before that.A report from the Director of National Intelligence says flying objects found by multiple agencies "demonstrated unusual flight characteristics or performance capabilities."

WA Store Clerk Kidnapped By Naked, Armed Man

(Everett, WA)-- Police are praising a store clerk northeast of Seattle who was kidnapped by a naked man armed with gun on Tuesday. Court documents say Charles Randall entered the Gold Bar Family Grocer and went into the office where a clerk was located. Randall locked the door and wouldn't allow the employee to leave. She offered him cigarettes, alcohol, and food to keep him happy. SWAT negotiators eventually talked Randall into peacefully surrendering. He's charged with first-degree kidnapping. A deputy wrote in the report that the victim did an amazing job of handling such a stressful situation.

Knox County Dispatch Team Adds Emotional Support Skunk To Team

(Knox County, IN)-- A furry friend has been part of a dispatch team in Indiana for over seven months now. Nugget is an emotional support skunk that's been calming and supporting the Knox County team. His owner Heather Blaney says her black and white friend is sweet and odorless. She adopted him from the Indiana Skunk Rescue and he's one of six at her home.
