BML Tuesday: We Need Definition

…The Wokies

Welcome back from our holiday break. I hope your Christmas or Hanukah was wonderful for you, your families and friends. We’ll have three days together before the New Year’s holiday hits us with another long weekend.

To start us off- speech. To have understanding we must share the same definition of terms. Quite simply, we don’t. Loudoun County Virginia has been a hotspot for the battles in America’s schools. It's now the focus of our search for clarity. While one activist has called for a ban to “hate Speech” in the district, just what he means by the term is not likely to meet our definition.

Then we have “The Wokies,” awards for the most futile efforts of the outrage mob.

Bari Weiss is offering to debate the FBI on the definition of “misinformation” on social media, specifically Twitter.

Former Tallahassee Mayor and gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum will face trial on corruption charges. The governor has replaced an elected South Florida school board member.

In New York an admitted liar was elected to congress. He’s admitted the lies and vows to serve saying the lies won’t lessen his effectiveness.

And, if we have time, the Marines are considering dropping “ma’am and sir” for general neutral terms to address officers.

Welcome back to the conversation!

BML WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY

…Brevard’s Most Annoying

It’s our final WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY of 2022.What’s it going to be? It’s entirely up to you as this one day a week you may bring up any topic you like for our discussion. Maybe you have a year-end list or highlight or a news story we have not had in play. Whatever it is, today’s the day.

For my part I have a look at the country’s most annoying people. Then I thought we might open it up to Brevard’s most annoying figures of the past year.  What happens when schools ignore excellence? We have a story. What’s education hiding? We have that, too. Then, there are stories on our attitudes toward female sports, potential expansion of the state’s Parental Rights Law and an investigation of a Christmas Drag Queen show.

Whatever it’s going to be, thanks for being part of today’s WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY.

BML Thursday: 2022’s Most Appreciated

…WIDE OPEN

Yesterday we discussed 2022’s most annoying people, places and things. Today, in the course of our discussion, let’s talk about things we appreciated in 2022.We’ll also tackle our usual subjects on our final show of the year. We’ll do something else, too. We’ll keep today’s format wide open, like Wednesdays. You may bring up any topic you like as we close 2022.

IN A HANDBASKET brings us a cautionary tale of the bad path of certain educators in our schools. Also in play: narrowing US 1 in Palm Shores, the upside of Britney Griner being back in the USA, expanding the parental rights law and more.

It’s been an interesting year with the promise of the New Year to come…what are you thinking?
