New Laws For Landlord To Take Effect Next Week

(Tallahassee, FL)-- A series of new legislation aimed at Florida protecting tenants will take effect next week. Starting January 1st, Miya's Law will require landlords to keep a log of everyone who has been issued a copy of an apartment key. It will also require all employees at a complex to undergo a background check. The measure is named after 19-year-old Miya Marcano, who was killed by a maintenance employee at her Orlando apartment last year. Anyone who breaks these rules could lose their right to rent in the state.

SJC Man Arrested In Domestic Incident In Flagler County

(Bunnell, FL)-- A bystander is credited with helping a woman during a domestic violence incident in Flagler County. The sheriff's office announced yesterday that St. Johns County's Allen Brucker was arrested for attacking a woman Monday in Palm Coast. The woman claims Brucker punched and strangled her before she was able to escape and jump off the second-floor balcony into the bushes below. Deputies say a witness saw Brucker drag the woman across the street and yelled at Brucker to stop. Brucker fled the scene, and the witness helped the woman call 911.

TPD Officer Fired For Dragging Handcuffed Woman

(Tampa, FL)-- A Tampa Police officer is out of work for an incident caught on tape. Officer Gregory Damon was fired yesterday for dragging a handcuffed homeless woman across the floor at the Orient Road Jail last month. Damon arrested the 46-year-old for trespassing at Tampa Family Health Centers in Belmont Heights on North 22nd Street. After arriving at the jail, police say the woman refused to get out of the patrol SUV, so Damon dragged her across the floor, and when she refused orders to stand up, he continued to drag her. Police say Damon violated policy by not getting help lifting the woman into a restraint chair and wheeling her into the jail. Records show the woman was later released to a mental health facility.

FBI Issues Peach Bowl Ticket Scam Warning

(Atlanta, GA)-- College football fans trying to get their hands on Peach Bowl tickets need to use caution. The FBI is warning potential ticket buyers about scams. The agency said if the price looks too good to be true then it probably is. Standing room only tickets are going for about 300-bucks each on resale sites like StubHub. Those lucky enough to get tickets to see Georgia take on Cincinnati are being cautioned to make sure they don't post their ticket barcodes on social media. The FBI said scammers can use pictures of the barcode to clone the ticket to either get in the game themselves or sell fake tickets.

Survey: 51% Of Americans Go To Bathroom For Alone Time

(New York, NY)-- A new survey finds more than half of American adults go to the bathroom to be alone, not just because they need to go. The OnePoll survey found that 51-percent of adults in the U.S. go to sit on the toilet so they can have some peace and quiet. And it happens more often when there are more people in the house. Parents with kids living at home are three times more likely to go to the bathroom to be alone than single people who don't have children.
