Governor Ron DeSantis was in Fort Myers to sign property insurance reform and hurricane relief legislation. On Thursday, the governor signed a toll relief bill providing an estimated half-billion dollars in savings for frequent Florida commuters.
Brevard County Teen Accused Of Stabbing Mother
(Cocoa, FL) --A Brevard County woman is hurt after an argument with her son turned violent. The sheriff's office says Coca 17-year-old Tobias Brewer stabbed his mother and hit her with a frying pan last month at their home on Japonica Lane. Investigators say Brewer was upset that his mom kept telling him to clean his room. He's facing charges that include attempted first-degree murder.
Brevard Public Schools Names Robert Schiller Interim Superintendent
(Viera, FL) --Dr. Robert Schiller is the new interim superintendent of Brevard Public Schools. The school board unanimously approved Schiller's hiring Friday morning. He'll succeed outgoing Superintendent Dr. Mark Mullins. Once he and the district agree on a contract he could start work as soon as Wednesday, before the district goes on winter break.
Volusia County Deputy Arrested For DUI
(DeLand, FL) --A Volusia County deputy is on leave after she was arrested. The sheriff's office says the FHP arrested Deputy Julia Curtin for drunk driving in Seminole County Saturday night. The 23-year-old was off duty and in her personal car on I-4 near SR 46 when she was pulled over. No injuries were reported. She has been with the sheriff's office for three years.
Fuel Leak Leads To Emergency Landing At MIA
(Miami, FL) --A fuel leak appears to be the reason a plane had to make an emergency landing at Miami International Airport. An American Airlines flight from Key West to Philadelphia stopped at MIA last night. CBS3 in Philadelphia reports the plane landed without incident, and no injuries were reported.
TSA Intercepts Record Number Of Firearms In 2022
(Springfield, VA) --The TSA intercepted a record number of firearms at security checkpoints this year. In a Friday release, the agency said it recovered over 63-hundred weapons, of which 88-percent were loaded. It's the first time the figure has surpassed six-thousand with predictions that it will rise to 66-hundred interceptions by the end of next year. The TSA prohibits firearms in carry-on luggage, even if the passenger has a concealed weapon permit. Punishment for attempting to bring a firearm through a security checkpoint can result in nearly 15-thousand dollars in fines and even felony arrest. The number of firearms seized at checkpoints has increased over the past decade except when travel was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Giraffe, Zebra Bones Seized At VA Airport
(Dulles, VA) --U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say they seized giraffe and zebra bones from a traveler at Washington's Dulles International Airport last month. The woman was returning from Kenya, and had kept the bones as souvenirs. They were discovered after X-raying her luggage. The woman was not charged, but the bones were turned over to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service since they could bring disease into the country. The CBP report did not reveal how the woman obtained the bones.

(New York, NY) -- It may be the holiday season, but Financial Buzz says New York City has the least Christmas cheer and is the grinchiest city of all. After looking at data from 50 cities, New York had the lowest score at 18-point-nine, but most New Yorkers don't see it. But the data speaks for itself since the Big Apple has the lowest rates of holiday decoration shops, Christmas tree lots, gift shops, and food banks. Turns out Hartford in Connecticut is the least grinchiest city in the nation with a score of nearly 75.
