Here’s a recap of the week…
BML Monday: Tis the Season
…Joy & Politics
I attended my first holiday party of the season on Friday. The McPherson Financial Group held a noontime gathering at their offices and it was a great time. Julie’s mom makes some excellent chocolate chip cookies! As the Christmas season gets into full swing, politics will be sure to have its say. IN A HANDBASKET gives us one example.
The Lockerbie bombing suspect is now in the custody of the United States. It has me wondering if there are any other less-than-prominent athletes available for trade.
Brevard Public School has thrust the county into the national spotlight. Apparently we are a place where teachers are abused daily by their students. The conversation around our schools’ disciplinary policy and practices continues.
Elon Musk continues revealing Twitter’s political history and it’s not pretty.
BML Tuesday: Words, Acts & Results
…don’t make the SOE mistake
Our Tuesday starts with words. As 2022 comes to a close we see dictionaries and other publications naming their word of the year. The Cambridge Dictionary is modifying a definition or two. We’ll call it, “Defining Women” and it’s flat out wrong.
We’ll then move to acts. We’ve seen Tulsi Gabbard and now Kyrsten Sinema leave the Democratic Party. Could Joe Manchin be next? The WV Senator is not ruling it out. Another act that Brevard had best guard against is County Commissioner John Tobia announcing he’s running for Supervisor of Elections. While Tobia has shown an ability to get himself elected, he’s exhibited no skills that are required for proper management of our elections. He has shunned every opportunity to lead, but now wants to lead this most important of government functions.
Lastly, we’ll hit on results. Loudoun County, Virginia’s former Superintendent of Schools has been indicted over his acts regarding a transgender assailant of girls in their schools. Do Republican voters have the ability to turn around bad results? We get little that we expect from the folks we elect, do they rely on our fear to keep their jobs?
Our ideas and conclusions are in focus on this Tuesday.
BML: WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY
…what do you think?
It’s the day you can bring any topic you choose to the show. News, politics, social issues, sports- they’re all in play and it’s up to you what we take on in today’s discussion. For my part, there’s a little bit of everything from words, the military, education and politics. But, the stage is yours as you direct the conversation on this WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY. What's it going to be?
BML Thursday: Quiet Quitting- Could You, Are You?
…Florida Today’s John Torres
Maybe it’s a generational thing, but Quiet Quitting baffles me. The practice of doing the bare minimum at your job is foreign to me. We all have good days and bad days, but to intentionally slow down work performance is to invite an exit from the workplace. Those who are doing it say they have found a better work/life balance. Quiet Quitting is IN A HANDBASKET this morning.
While the special legislative session in Tallahassee has sent some insurance reforms to the governor (we’ll talk that with Representative Tyler Sirois when we get the chance), Democrats have filed to expand Red Flag Laws in the state.
The changes in school boards across the state are getting plenty of press. From firing superintendents to changing LGBT and library book policies, the M4L wave is having impact in Florida and around the country.
Florida Today’s John Torres is with us in our 8am hour as we take a look at 2022 and John’s perspectives as the year draws to a close.
Joe Pags is in for me tomorrow. We’ll talk again Monday when Art McPherson joins us in our 8am hour to talk at the economy and our personal finances.
