DeSantis Asks Grand Jury To Investigate COVID-19 Vaccines

(West Palm Beach, FL) -- The state of Florida is calling for a statewide grand jury to investigate any wrongdoing in connection to COVID-19 vaccines. Governor Ron DeSantis outlined the process at a roundtable earlier today saying he expects it to be impaneled in the Tampa Bay area.  Public health experts have said vaccines are safe and serious side effects are rare, but the governor recently raised concerns over the mRNA doses. During his discussions today, he also mentioned that the state will create a committee to review recommendations and policies from the CDC and FDA.

Orlando Lawmaker Calls Insurance Reform Bill Necessary

(Tallahassee, FL)-- An Orlando lawmaker admits she doesn't love a bill she just voted for. A property insurance reform bill passed the state senate yesterday in Tallahassee. The bill lifts the requirement that insurance companies pay a homeowner's legal fees if the homeowner successfully sues the company. Supporters say it will stabilize the insurance market and attract more insurers, but opponents say it doesn't do anything to protect homeowners. Democratic State Senator Linda Stewart tells the Orlando Sentinel she and many others don't like the bill, but it's necessary and will stem the crisis.

Another officer noticed she was losing consciousness, and she was given three shots of Narcan to revive her. Bannick was taken to the hospital, and police say she'll make a full recovery.

A company official tells News 6 they're honored to have the opportunity to bring this project to Melbourne.

Sarasota County School Board Approves Separation Deal With Superintendent

(Sarasota, FL)-- Sarasota County will look for a new superintendent of schools. The school board voted yesterday to accept a separation agreement with Superintendent Dr. Brennan Asplen. He agreed to step down two weeks ago after the board expressed its disapproval with his performance. Asplen was hired just over two years ago. Assistant Superintendent Chris Renouf was named acting superintendent.

Broward School Board Votes To Reinstate Fired Superintendent

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- Broward County's superintendent may get her job back. The school board voted yesterday to reinstate Dr. Vickie Cartwright after she was fired by the board last month. Cartwright, though, is required to share with the board her plan to address complaints about her job performance. That plan could be unveiled at a meeting next month. If the board is unhappy with her plan, it could vote to begin looking for a replacement. Cartwright says she's very grateful for the board's decision, and she continues to look forward to working alongside every member in the future.

Cold Front To Bring Severe Weather To Central Florida

(Melbourne, FL)-- A cold front moving through Central Florida is expected to bring an increased chance for severe weather this week. The National Weather Service says the risk for strong to severe storms is set to begin on Thursday afternoon with the primary threats being strong winds and lightning. There is a high risk of life-threatening rip currents expected to continue along the east coast for most of the week. Cold air will appear following the storms and last through at least the weekend.

USS Orleck To Be Moved To Jacksonville Shipyards

(Jacksonville, FL)-- Plans are in place to move a decorated Navy ship. The Jacksonville City Council yesterday voted to move the USS Orleck to the Shipyards. The vessel is currently near the Main Street Bridge near the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront hotel. The hotel says keeping the ship there is bad for business because it blocks views of the water. The Orleck earned 18 battle stars in Korea and Vietnam. Work to begin preparing the ship's new home could begin by the end of the month.
