(Port St. John, FL) --A deadly shooting in Brevard County could be a case of mistaken identity. The sheriff's office says a man was shot to death Sunday night in Port St. John at a McDonald's on North US 1. Investigators believe the man attacked a driver, unprovoked, and the driver shot him. It appears the attacker thought the driver was someone else. The shooter has not been arrested.
Volusia County Woman Killed In Collision With Police Officer
(Orange City, FL) --A Volusia County woman is dead after she was hit by a police cruiser. An Orange City Police SUV hit the woman yesterday morning while she was crossing US 17-92 at Roberts Street. FHP says the 60-year-old Deltona woman was not in a crosswalk, and she walked into the SUV's path. The police officer, who was not injured, was on duty at the time.
State Warns HillsCo Schools To Comply With New Laws
(Tampa, FL) --Schools in Hillsborough County are in danger of breaking state law. The Florida Department of Education sent the district a letter last month warning that schools aren't complying with two new laws. Those laws are the Parental Rights in Education law and the Stop WOKE Act.The Parental Rights in Education law governs how schools discuss LGBTQ issues. The Stop WOKE Act focuses on topics of race. The Hillsborough County School Board will meet today to discuss the letter.
Sarasota County Deputy Fired For Inappropriate Contact With Suspect
(Sarasota, FL) --A Sarasota County deputy is out of a job for allegedly sending inappropriate messages to a woman he arrested.The sheriff's office recently announced that Deputy Michael McMahan was fired two months ago. He allegedly sent a woman inappropriate text messages after arresting her in June for drunk driving. Investigators say McMahan confessed. The sheriff says he'll do everything in his power to ensure McMahan never wears a badge again.
Miami Firefighter Punches Man In Handcuffs
(Miami, FL) --An investigation is underway after a disturbing video involving a Miami firefighter. The video recorded two months ago shows the firefighter punching Antonio Cruz while Cruz was handcuffed in Jackson Memorial Hospital.7News reported yesterday the beating started after Cruz spit at firefighter Robert Webster. Fire Rescue says he has been relieved of duty pending an administrative investigation.
Tampa Man Found Guilty On Six Federal Charges
(Tampa, FL) --A Tampa veteran is guilty of illegally possessing guns and hand grenades. Retired Army Special Forces Master Sergeant Jeremy Brown was convicted yesterday on six federal charges. Besides illegally possessing two guns and two grenades, the 48-year-old was also convicted of illegally possessing a classified document. The items were found while federal agents were investigating his actions on January 6th, 2021. His lawyer claimed the agents planted the items. Brown will be sentenced in March.
Titusville Well Water Tests Positive For E. Coli
(Titusville, FL) --The city of Titusville is continuing to test its well water after results came back positive for E. coli.Officials say the well services will remain offline until further testing comes back to prove it is not contaminated with human or animal waste. People can become briefly sick from drinking the water. Samples were taken last Friday, but the findings have not been released.
Robbers Target Tamarac Business Again
(Tamarac, FL) --A Broward County business owner doesn't know how she'll move forward after another robbery. Charelle Thompson owns The Beauty Plug in Tamarac, and she says on Sunday someone stole about 10-thousand dollars worth of merchandise, including wigs. Thompson opened the business just two years ago, and this is already the second time she has been robbed. She says she started the business to teach her children how to be entrepreneurs, but they have also gotten some harsh lessons. Thompson tells 7News her daughters have learned to be suspicious, defensive and scared, and she's questioning if she'll continue or cease operations.
Couple Arrested After Having Sex At Vacant Home's Pool
(Davenport, FL) --A couple is facing charges after they were caught having sex in the pool of a vacant home in Polk County. The sheriff's office says a realtor was at the home in Davenport last week when she noticed a strange car in the driveway and called 911. She then noticed the couple in the pool, and she told deputies she didn't know the couple, and they didn't have permission to be there. Thirty-nine-year-old Joshua Jones and 35-year-old Victoria Colon were arrested for trespassing, and Jones is also facing drug charges after deputies say he was found with meth.
FL Man Sentenced After Shipping Himself Meth
(Tarpon Springs, FL) -- A Florida man will spend the next decade behind bars after trying to mail himself 18 pounds of meth. The Department of Justice says Jason Hardy flew to California more than two years ago and tried shipping the package to his home northwest of Tampa. It was immediately flagged by a delivery company and investigated by authorities. Hardy pleaded guilty earlier this year to conspiracy to distribute drugs.
Winners Named In Ohio's "Name A Snowplow" Contest
(Cleveland, OH) --Winners have been announced in this year's Ohio Turnpike "Name A Snowplow" contest. More than 55-hundred names were submitted for consideration to go on eight trucks this years. The submissions were narrowed to a list of 50 finalists and then voted on by visitors to the Ohio Department of Transportation's website. Winning names include Ctrl-Salt-Delete, You're Killin' Me Squalls, Blizzard Wizard and The Big LePlowski.
