Brevard School Board To Hold Special Meeting Over Discipline Policy

(Viera, FL) -- The Brevard County School Board will hold a special meeting to discuss its discipline policy. The discussion will take place today after Board Chair Matt Susin says 42 teachers and eight bus drivers have quit because of student behavior. Officials plan to modify the district's protocols to possibly enforce suspensions in order to hold students accountable. They will also focus on how to better understand behavioral issues and ways to provide support. The meeting is scheduled to begin at nine o'clock.

SpaceX Launch Planned To Provide Global Internet

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- SpaceX is preparing for a launch on Florida's Space Coast later today. During liftoff, a Falcon Nine rocket will carry a batch of 40 internet satellites for the company OneWeb in an effort to provide broadband services across the globe. This would be in competition with SpaceX's own Starlink services, which has already successfully launched over three-thousand satellites into orbit. The launch is scheduled for liftoff at 5:27 this evening from the Kennedy Space Center.

Three Man Accused Of Kidnapping, Holding Man For Ransom

(Orlando, FL) -- Three Orange County men are accused of kidnapping a man and holding him for a 500-dollar ransom. Police say Marcos Caraballo, Dylan Telleria and Alexis Torres,III were all involved in the incident in Orlando late last month. Investigators say the group kidnapped a man, who they apparently knew, beat him several times then asked his girlfriend to pay them or else they would kill him. One of the suspects cooperated and gave incriminating information about Caraballo and Torres. They are the only ones listed in the affidavit that are facing charges.

Ocala Couple Charged With Human Trafficking

(Ocala, FL) -- An Ocala husband and wife are facing a number of charges in connection to human trafficking. Marion County police arrested Jessica and Dwight Edwards after they found them sending inappropriate text messaging to children over the course of a year. Detectives say Jessica is facing child neglect charges after forcing the victims to be alone with Dwight. As for him, authorities found Dwight in Georgia and charged him with six counts of human trafficking. He will soon be sent back to Central Florida.

Football Coach Hospitalized Following Shooting At Tryouts

(Jacksonville, FL) -- A Jacksonville coach is still in the hospital after he was shot while at football tryouts. The man's attorney told Action News Jax that his client was shot ten times while he was trying to protect kids during the incident this past Saturday. Police say the 20-year-old coach was driving four teenage boys home when suspects in another car opened fire. A 13-year-old was killed and an 11-year-old was hurt.At this point, investigators say they are not sure if this was a targeted attack.

Sheriff: Man Fired Shot At Deputy In Road Rage Incident

(Hillsborough County, FL)-- A Florida man is facing multiple charges after allegedly firing a shot at a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy during a road rage incident. According to Sheriff Chad Chronsiter, the deputy was driving in a marked vehicle along Balm Riverview Road near County Road 672. Just after 6 p.m., the driver of a Saturn became aggressive when the deputy tried to pass him, then rolled down his window and fired one shot into the deputy's vehicle. The deputy, who was uninjured, called for backup and the driver of the Saturn was arrested.      

Florida State Rep. Accused Of COVID Relief Fraud

(Tampa, FL)-- Florida State Representative Joseph Harding is accused of filing fake applications for pandemic relief funding. Harding has been indicted on six counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Harding filed for the government funds on behalf of two businesses - the Vak Shack and Harding Farms, LLC - neither that generated any revenue in 2019. Per the loan application Harding filed, the businesses brought in more than 800-thousand dollars.
