Each day Bill records a MICKnugget, a one-minute take on some issue that got his attention that morning. Below are the scripts for last week’s NUGGETS.

12.05.22- Slackers!
Is it COVID, an entitlement mentality or something more?
Whatever it is, a significant portion of the American workforce has an interesting idea on the use of sick days.
60% of workers aged 18-29 believe their sick days should be available for use for any reason including mental health days, vacation or even interviewing for other jobs!
There is a serious lack of commitment on the part of this group of people. I can’t fathom expecting an employer to pay you to go seek employment elsewhere.
Most people I know understand the idea of going to work while under the weather because the job needs to be accomplished.
COVID certainly changed expectations of work locations, but this is a bit much.
Jobs exist because they are necessary and if employees don’t treat them as such, it is they who will be unessential!
12.06.22- Rules have Reasons
Rules have reasons and violating them has consequences. This time the consequences are tragic.
One Brevard Deputy shot and killed another, his best friend, simply because the rules, for whatever reason, were ignored.
As a firearms instructor there are basic rules that we all teach our students.
Treat ALL guns as if they are loaded. Never point your weapon at anything you are not willing to shoot. Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire. At this point, refer back to rule one.
NEVER point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy.
Now, two lives are ruined. One is gone. The other is forever changed.
A community mourns, an agency examines and retools and in the end it all comes down to rules.
12.07.22- If Your Kid is Stupid…
If your kid is stupid, there’s a reason. That reason could very well be his teacher if that teacher is anything like the CA teacher we learned about on Wednesday.
Marta Shaffer teaches English at Oroville HS in NorCal. When it comes to proper grammar and language use, she vows to, “undermine that BS” as much as she can.
She claims writing and speaking properly, so that communication is clearly understood, are rooted in white supremacy and must be stopped.
She calls rules of grammar and composition arbitrary and creations of those in power.
If power means being successful through communication, she’s right.
But stopping it and allowing for unstandardized uses is a path to failure for her students.
Communication is key in any successful venture. It’s ironic that Marta Shaffer doesn’t get that, and it’s sad, but sure her students never will.
12.08.22- Under Pressure
The social media world thinks it’s putting pressure on Doug Flutie. The social media world is wrong.
Why? Doug Flutie stood with his friend Hershel Walker and spoke highly of him as Walker gave his concession speech in Tuesday’s Georgia Senate runoff election.
The two had played professional football together in the 80’s and have a mutual respect and friendship.
Doug Flutie stood with his friend who had transitioned from the gridiron to politics.
I don’t know Flutie’s politics and don’t care what they are. Flutie stood with and for his friend and that’s an honorable thing. It’s something we have seen Flutie do outside of politics.
As for the social media pressure. It’s to be expected in today’s political environment.
Flutie has handled much greater pressure with far more severe consequences than the internet can dole out. You can’t cancel Doug Flutie!
