Former HillsCo State Attorney Testifies In Trial Against DeSantis

(Tallahassee, FL)-- The prosecutor who was suspended by the governor is getting his chance to tell his side of the story. Former Hillsborough State Attorney Andrew Warren testified yesterday in his lawsuit against Governor Ron DeSantis. The governor suspended Warren three months ago for signing a pledge not to prosecute those who violated the state's abortion law. Warren is suing to be reinstated. He testified in federal court in Tallahassee that those pledges were not official policy because they were not on paper that contained his office's letterhead. Warren considered the pledges to be protected speech under the First Amendment. DeSantis' lawyers, though, argue the pledges aren't protected speech because he signed them using his official government title.
