FL Man Accused of Chewing Victim's Face Not Guilty By Reason Of Insanity

(Stuart, FL)-- A former Florida State University student accused of killing a Martin County couple in their garage six years ago and then chewing on one victim's faces is not guilty by reason of insanity. The prosecution, defense and judge have all agreed to the deal.Austin Harrouff [[ hair-oof ]] was set to go on trial today without a jury. The judge is expected to send Harrouff to a mental hospital.

Nikki Fried Calls On DeSantis Extend First Responder Title

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried is calling on the governor to extend who is considered a first responder. She wants the classification to include 911 dispatchers, agriculture law enforcement officers and Florida Forestry personnel. In a letter sent to Governor DeSantis last week, she said these officials responded to Hurricane Ian recovery efforts, but unlike first responders, they did not receive storm relief checks. She wants lawmakers to address this change at the legislative session next year. DeSantis has yet to comment on the request.

Beckham Jr Escorted Off Flight in Miami

(Miami, FL)-- Former New York Giants star wide receiver Odell Beckham Junior isn't happy that he was kicked off an American Airlines Flight yesterday heading to L.A. from Miami. Police say the flight crew tried to wake him as he appeared to be coming in and out of consciousness and refused to leave. Americans released a statement saying the plane returned to the gate because of a customer refusing to fasten their seatbelt. However, Beckham's attorney says his client was sleeping and what happened was because of an overzealous flight attendant.  

Scientists Discover That Some NYC Rats Carry COVID-19 Mutations

(New York, NY)-- Some rats in the nation's largest city apparently carry COVID-19 mutations. New York City has millions of rats with sightings up 70-percent this year compared to last. Now, scientists at the USDA and the University of Missouri have discovered COVID mutations in some rat species including Omicron, Alpha and Delta strains in 16-percent of the 80 Norwegian rats captured in Brooklyn and tested.While there's no evidence rats can transmit COVID to people, researchers say there is evidence the virus has jumped from humans to white-tail deer and minks.

Cat in Luggage Back Home In NYC

(Brooklyn, NY)-- A cat found inside a piece of luggage at JFK Airport in New York City is back home safely in Brooklyn. "Smells" the cat was found by TSA agents in a suitcase last week bound for Orlando, Florida. It turns out "Smells" didn't even belong to the passenger. His owner said he crawled into their houseguest's suitcase while she was at work. Luckily, agents spotted him while the luggage was being X-rayed.
