Here’s a recap of the week…
BML Monday: Football, Fire & Halloween
…what a weekend!
Happy Halloween! I had my share of scary & frustrating over the weekend and I’ll share that with you as we get our day moving. It involves football and fire and not necessarily in that order.
We’ll also have our obligatory Halloween story and it happens at some of the scariest places in the country, America’s colleges.
In our usual wheelhouse we have the state of partisan politics in Florida, the media- Gannett in particular- campaigning hard against Ron DeSantis, the lack of inclusion in the Crist campaign, how the left is trying to destroy the America we thought we knew, Elon Mush running Twitter like a business as opposed to an advocacy group and the literary crowd advocating censorship of Amy Coney Barrett’s forthcoming book.
We’ll not get to it all today, but we’ll do our best as this week’s conversation begins on BML.
BML Tuesday: Media, Politics & Lies
Political season can wear on us.The lies, the deception and the contempt shown for voters amaze me. New York’s governor serves as a prime example IN A HANDBASKET TODAY.
From there we’ll turn to media, which is hardly better. In fact, if media is not compliant, there are efforts afoot to make sure it’s controlled. The media even admits getting it wrong (or practicing deception) and is seemingly unaccountable. We’ve seen one journalist apology this week and CNN is making noise about turning itself around. I hope it can, but the proof will be in its performance.
Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic joins us at 7:42 to update us on Early Voting.
And, we’ll get our weekly trip into the past with Dave Bowman as he brings us a look at the Stamp Act with some implications for today:
One November 1, 1765, the Stamp Act, passed by Parliament and given assent by King George III, took effect in Colonial America. For most Americans of that day, it was an intolerable action that violated the basic principle of "No taxation without representation."
Americans of the day were quick to notice that there was an even bigger issue with the Stamp Act Tax. And it was one that would be repeated by Americans themselves in later years. All of those "papers" that required the Stamp to be affixed included newspapers and broadsides as well as pamphlets. If those did not have the stamp attached, they were impounded and destroyed by the Colonial Royal Governments.
BML WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY
…it’s up to you
You may bring any topic you like to the show when you call today. We do this on Wednesdays to give you the chance to highlight events or ideas that have gotten your attention. We won’t catch them all, so give us your thoughts.
On my mind today: a college professor with a stupid idea, Tulsi Gabbard deceiving us again by endorsing another Republican, how some politicians want to destroy America, the literary community calling for censorship of Amy Coney Barrett’s book, Elon Musk running Twitter like it’s his business (which it is) and more on American journalism.
We’ll hit all, some or none of these because today it’s up to you on BML.
BML Thursday: Work, Parties and Politics
…SOE Tim Bobanic
For a while “quiet quitting” was a thing. It appears to have given way to something worse. It makes me wonder if we actually value accomplishment and can look beyond ourselves. Quiet Constraint is IN A HANDBASKET. It’s dumb and potentially dangerous.
Cultural appropriation is not a thing, at least as it’s being portrayed at our colleges. A department Halloween party has one campus in an uproar for appropriating a culture that’s not even one.
Free speech and politics are in conflict in Florida and one group is suing because of it. When campaign finance law seems to trump free speech something has to give. It involved Governor Ron DeSantis fans who want him to run for President.
Before that can even become a question there is the matter of this midterm election. The panic is evident in how the Democrats are performing in the waning days of the campaign. By the way, Tulsi Gabbard has endorsed yet another Republican.
Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic is with us at 7:42 to update us on the election as we look ahead to next Tuesday.
A CNN reporter has laid it out quite clearly- the Dems have no answer for the economy and that’s causing their struggle in this election. One Democratic ploy has the potential to destroy the country and it’s big cities that are buying into it.
BML Friday: Suddenly, Twitter is a Problem
…the electorate meltdown
Remember Midnight Basketball? It was a Clinton administration plan to bring an end to violence in American’s inner cities. What if the violence is from non-basketball players? Portland is IN A HANDBASKET for its version of midnight basketball for white liberals.
Last week the professional fishing world was rocked with a cheating scandal. Fishing is not alone. Professional Cornhole has some problems of its own. First off, who knew there was professional cornhole? But cheating? And there was decent money on the line.
Since Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter the social media universe has been aghast. Apparently running a business like a business is a problem for people. It’s not for Elon Musk and that’s a good thing. The Twitter ax will fall on employees this morning. They will find out who’s going to stay and who will be looking for work…or book deals.
The final days of Early Voting are upon us. Election Day is Tuesday. We are seeing threats directed at election officials across the country and campaign related violence is also going on. Are we witnessing the end of our republic? Have we lost the ability to be adults?
