Judge Asks Parkland Defense To Sit Down During Hearing

(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- Tensions rose as the victims' relatives of the Parkland school massacre delivered their statements during a sentencing hearing today. Public Defender Gordon Weekes asked the judge if the families would not address the defense or their children directly, like they have been. However, the judge disagreed. When Weekes asked again, the judge asked him to step aside to allow the process to continue. Convicted shooter Nikolas Cruz will be formally sentenced to life in prison today.

DeSantis Appeals Migrant Flight Record Request

(Tallahassee, FL) --The administration of Governor Ron DeSantis is appealing an order that required officials to release records about recent migrant flights. Attorneys filed a notice Monday against a ruling from a Leon County judge, who claims officials did not turn over requested information about the flights to Massachusetts in September. The governor's office had 20 days to provide the proper documents. The appeal resulted a 48-hour stay on the order. 

UF Unanimously Recommends Sasse As New President

(Gainesville, FL) --Despite pushback from those on campus, the University of Florida is unanimously recommending Senator Ben Sasse as the new president. The Board of Trustees voted yesterday to select the Republican from Nebraska. UF staff and students have criticized Sasse as a finalist due to his stance toward issues related to the LGBTQ-plus community. The university says the state Board of Governors will make the final vote next week. He is expected to take on the role early next year.

Brevard County Man Arrested After Chase

(Titusville, FL) --A Brevard County man is facing several charges after leading officers on a chase in a stolen truck. Titusville Police say officers tried to pull over Robert Lee Ramon Strachan yesterday on A. Max Memorial Bridge Parkway, but he refused to do so. Instead, he allegedly drove the wrong way and forced other cars off the road before police used a tire-deflating device to slow him down. Strachan continued to drive, though, and hit a couple cars and a police SUV at US One and Precision Way. He was eventually stopped in Cocoa on SR 520 and taken into custody. The 36-year-old is facing charges that include aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.    

Crist, Demings Remain Optimistic Despite Polls

(Miami Gardens, FL) -- Despite what the polls are showing, Democrats Charlie Crist and Val Demings are optimistic about their chances in next week's elections. Both appeared at local campaign rallies yesterday with President Biden. Crist is running for governor, and the RealClearPolitics.com average has him trailing Governor Ron DeSantis by over 12 points. Crist, though, said at a rally in Miami Gardens that he will win and send shock waves across America. Demings is running for senate against Republican incumbent Marco Rubio, and the RealClearPolitics.com average has her trailing by eight points. Still, she told the crowd she feels a victory coming on.

Customs Laws Broken

(Houston, TX) -- A monkey smuggler is heading to prison. A Texas woman has pled guilty to breaking customs laws. Savannah Valdez was stopped when agents saw a wooden box in her car that was filled with holes. She said it was full of beer. Instead, it was hiding a spider monkey. The 20-year old hit the gas and got away. But she was caught when she started posting online monkey adoption ads in the Houston area. Now, she faces up to two-decades behind bars. The monkey has been moved to an animal shelter in Central Florida. 

First Trailer Released For "A Christmas Story Christmas"

(Cleveland, OH) --The first trailer is being released for the sequel of "A Christmas Story." "A Christmas Story Christmas" brings back original star Pete Billingsley as Ralphie, now an adult. who returns to the home he grew up in with his new family. The film will be set in the 1970s as the original was set in the 1940s. Ian Petrella, Zack Ward, Scott Schwartz and R.D. Robb are returning to portray their previous roles from the 1983 movie."A Christmas Story Christmas" debuts on HBO Max on November 17th.
