Hurricane Ian Death Toll Still Rising In FL

(Tallahassee, FL) --The death toll from Hurricane Ian is still rising in Florida. The state Medical Examiners Commission reports at least 122 fatalities have been linked to Ian as of Friday. That includes three additional deaths in hard-hit Lee County, where the Category 4 storm made landfall more than a month ago. Records show Ian is the deadliest hurricane to strike Florida in nearly 90 years.

Dozens Of Osceola County Homes Declared Uninhabitable

(Kissimmee, FL) --Dozens of homes in Osceola County are uninhabitable because of Hurricane Ian. Inspectors announced yesterday that 69 mobile homes in Good Samaritan Society Kissimmee Village have too much flood damage to be lived in. That leaves some residents in a tough spot as they can't afford to find another home in the area on short notice. Good Samaritan officials tell Channel 9 all leases for buildings that will be demolished will end December First. 

FEMA Looks To Hire Hundreds To Help With Hurricane Recovery

(Orlando, FL) -- FEMA is trying to hire hundreds of people as they help with recovery efforts following Hurricane Ian. The agency is looking to fill a variety of positions, including customer service, environmental protection and emergency management. In Florida, there are three-hundred open jobs. Anyone interested can look at qualifications through the website USAJobs-dot-gov.

Registered GOP Voters Leading In Submitted Ballots

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Registered Republicans are outpacing Democrats as early voting continues in Florida. Overall, more than two-point-77-million ballots were casted in the state as of yesterday morning. Those representing the GOP counted for almost half of the ballots so far. All counties will have early voting available through at least Saturday.There are more than 14-and-a-half-million registered voters throughout the Sunshine State.

New Lawsuit Seeks To Overturn Education Law

(Tallahassee, FL) --An Orange County woman is part of a new effort to overturn a controversial education law. She and others across the state filed a lawsuit last week asking a judge to overturn the Parental Rights in Education law.   The plaintiffs claim the law subjects them to discrimination by treating LGBTQ people as those that need to be shunned.

USF Political Analyst Discusses Election

(Tampa, FL) --Perception could be reality for Democrats in Florida. USF political analyst Dr. Susan MacManus recently discussed the upcoming election.The polls show Republicans winning the races for governor and senate. MacManus says the story right now seems to be that the Republicans are going to run away with things. She also tells ABC Action News that perception could hurt Democrats by dampening their enthusiasm and reducing their turnout.

Ghost Candidate Suspect No Longer Wants Archer Removed From Case

(Sanford, FL) --A suspect in a ghost candidate scheme no longer wants the prosecutor removed from his case. Eric Foglesong is facing trial in Seminole County for allegedly falsifying records to help a ghost candidate in the District 9 state senate race two years ago. He filed a motion to replace Brevard-Seminole State Attorney Phil Archer because Foglesong believed Archer had personal animosity toward him for working for Archer's opponent in a previous election. A hearing was set for Thursday, but yesterday Foglesong's attorney canceled the hearing because his client changed his mind. 

Volusia County Man Recovers Stolen Car

(Holly Hill, FL) --A Volusia County man has no regrets about the risk he took to recover his stolen car. Holly Hill's Larry Burgess had his car stolen three weeks ago at a Publix on Ridgewood Ave. He filed a police report, but he decided to take matters into his own hands and look for the car himself. Two days later, he found it outside a thrift store, used his other car to block it and confronted the thief, who ran from the scene before being arrested. Burgess got his car back, but police say he shouldn't have put himself in danger by confronting the thief himself. Burgess tells News 6 he understands that advice, but he did what he had to do, and he hopes the thief learned a lesson.    

No Winner In Monday's Powerball, Jackpot Grows To $1.2 Billion

(Undated) -- The Powerball jackpot will continue to grow. There wasn't a winner in Monday's drawing which means Wednesday's jackpot will be an estimated one-point-two-billion-dollars. That marks the largest Powerball prize in over six years. Monday still saw plenty of winners of smaller prizers. Powerball said more than five-point-four-million winning tickets were sold for prizes that totaled nearly 60-million-dollars, including ten that won one-million-dollars.
