Political season can wear on us. The lies, the deception and the contempt shown for voters amaze me. New York’s governor serves as a prime example IN A HANDBASKET TODAY.
From there we’ll turn to media, which is hardly better. In fact, if media is not compliant, there are efforts afoot to make sure it’s controlled. The media even admits getting it wrong (or practicing deception) and is seemingly unaccountable. We’ve seen one journalist apology this week and CNN is making noise about turning itself around. I hope it can, but the proof will be in its performance.
Supervisor of Elections Tim Bobanic joins us at 7:42 to update us on Early Voting.
And, we’ll get our weekly trip into the past with Dave Bowman as he brings us a look at the Stamp Act with some implications for today:
One November 1, 1765, the Stamp Act, passed by Parliament and given assent by King George III, took effect in Colonial America. For most Americans of that day, it was an intolerable action that violated the basic principle of "No taxation without representation."
Americans of the day were quick to notice that there was an even bigger issue with the Stamp Act Tax. And it was one that would be repeated by Americans themselves in later years. All of those "papers" that required the Stamp to be affixed included newspapers and broadsides as well as pamphlets. If those did not have the stamp attached, they were impounded and destroyed by the Colonial Royal Governments.
