FDOT Defends Contractor Who Hired Illegals For Tampa Bay Project

(Tallahassee, FL)-- FDOT is defending a contractor that hired illegal workers. FDOT has a contract with Archer Western-DeMoya Joint Ventures to work on the Gateway Expressway project. The company was found to have hired illegal aliens, including one who was driving a front-end loader when he hit and killed a Pinellas County deputy last month. An FDOT official said yesterday the worker passed the E-Verify system that's meant to determine if someone is in the country legally. A company official says it appears the worker did so fraudulently. Homeland Security runs E-Verify, but it has not said how the worker avoided detection. Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Times reports FDOT continues to do business with the company.

Lawmaker Trying To Overturn Judge's 'Absurd' Order

The child is a US citizen, but his mom is deemed unfit, and his father doesn't want to raise him. North Miami State Rep. Dotie Joseph says she can't comprehend why the judge would think sending the child to Haiti was acceptable considering the conditions there. She wants DCF to review the case. Meanwhile, Angel's foster mom says she and her husband want to adopt him, but she's fighting the government in what feels like a battle of David and Goliath.
