Mick's Morning News- Wednesday

Couple In Murder-Suicide Identified

(Deltona, FL)-- A man and his wife are dead after what the Volusia County sheriff calls a classic case of domestic violence. Sheriff Mike Chitwood said yesterday that Oscar Salazar stabbed his wife and then himself Monday night in Deltona at their home on Gramercy Drive. She was identified as 26-year-old Byanca Cruz Tovar. Three children, ages five, six and ten, were in the home at the time, but none were hurt. Chitwood says the 31-year-old Salazar had been arrested in Orlando twice six years ago for battery against Tovar, who was his pregnant girlfriend at the time. Chitwood also revealed that Salazar was an illegal immigrant from Mexico.

Shooting In Brevard County

(Cocoa, FL)-- A man is hurt after a shooting in Brevard County. The sheriff's office says the unidentified man was shot yesterday afternoon in Cocoa on Highland Court, found an Amazon truck nearby and drove himself to a 7-Eleven where he stopped to call for help. He was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released. Deputies have not announced an arrest, and they say the victim is not cooperating. Investigators tell WESH 2 News they suspect the shooting was drug-related.

Polk County Man Arrested For Killing Witness

(Tampa, FL)-- A Polk County man is accused of killing a man who planned to testify against him. The FDLE announced yesterday that Lake Wales' Marlon Burgess was arrested for the beating and stabbing death of Dominique Harris. The 20-year-old was found dead two years ago in Hardee County. Investigators say Harris was planning to testify that the 37-year-old Burgess shot him a year before in Lakeland. Burgess is now facing charges that include first-degree murder.

Brevard County Calls On Suspension Of Local Mayor

(Indialantic, FL)-- Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is being asked to suspend a local mayor over allegations involving a rake. Commissioners want Indialantic Mayor Dave Berkman out of office after he was charged with battery for allegedly hitting a political candidate with a rake. It happened during a Hurricane Ian cleanup event at Orlando Park late last month. Either way, he is not running for reelection and will be replaced in early December.

HillsCo School Getting New Mascot

(Tampa, FL)-- A Hillsborough County school is celebrating what one student calls a new beginning. The school board voted yesterday to make Chamberlain High School's new nickname the Storm. The school's teams were known as the Chiefs for 65 years, but the board voted four months ago to change it. The school's Student Government Association proposed the name Storm. One SGA member tells ABC Action News the new name will create more unity and school spirit. The new Storm mascot will make its debut at Homecoming next Friday, the 28th.

Porch Pirate Steals Man's Wedding Suit

(Miami, FL)-- A bride-to-be is left scrambling after a porch pirate struck in Miami-Dade County. Marian Conesa says the thief stole a package from her porch yesterday afternoon near Southwest 14th Ave and 76th Street. She says inside the package from Amazon was her fiancé's wedding suit. They're planning to get married on Halloween in Las Vegas, but now Conesa needs to find another suit for her future husband. She tells 7News her doorbell camera caught the alleged thief, and she has filed a police report.

Well-Dressed Man Armed With Machete Has Neighbors On Edge

(Lauderhill, FL)-- A well-dressed man has neighbors in Broward County on edge. Some Lauderhill residents report a man dressed in a suit and tie knocking on their doors with a machete in his hand. He was caught on doorbell cameras Monday morning near Inverrary Boulevard and North University Drive. He doesn't try to force his way into the homes, and he just quietly walks away, but still, one neighbor says he's freaked out. Deputies say no crime was committed, but they're increasing patrols to put neighbors at ease. One woman tells 7News he didn't seem lost or confused, but like someone dressed for business, just with a machete.
