Wind From Ian Could Exceed 100 MPH

(Ruskin, FL) --The wind could reach hurricane strength as early as this morning in Tampa Bay. The National Weather Service says peak winds will be between 45 and 60 miles an hour with gusts to 85 miles an hour. There is the potential, though, for wind greater than 110 miles an hour. The NWS warns the impact of the storm could be devastating and catastrophic. Some locations may be uninhabitable for weeks or months.   

Hurricane Warning Issued

(Melbourne, FL) --Central Florida won't escape the wrath of Hurricane Ian. The National Weather Service has a Hurricane Warning in effect for Orange, Osceola, Seminole and southern Lake Counties. A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Brevard and Volusia counties. The NWS warns of wind damage beginning today and lasting through tomorrow. Peak winds will range from 55 to 65 miles an hour, and gusts could reach 80 miles an hour. Also, a Flood Watch is in effect with rainfall totals of six inches to two feet expected. Tornadoes are also possible.    

Florida Braces For Ian

(Tallahassee, FL) --Residents in a dozen counties are under mandatory evacuation orders. Governor Ron DeSantis gave an update yesterday on the state's response to Hurricane Ian. He urged those under those orders to comply. DeSantis also says the Division of Emergency Management has deployed several hundred people to help staff special needs shelters. Also, over 100 trucks with water and food are ready to be deployed where needed once the storm passes, and several hundred generators and pumps have been staged for response and recovery efforts.     

Several Publix Locations Closing Today

(Lakeland, FL) --Just a few hours to remain to do your pre-hurricane grocery shopping at Publix. The company announced yesterday it's closing stores in Orange, Lake, Marion, Seminole, Sumter, Osceola and Volusia counties at 6:00 tonight. The stores are expected to reopen on Friday.

Gas Prices On Rise In FL

(Heathrow, FL) --Gas prices are on the rise in Florida.Triple-A reports the statewide average for a gallon of regular is three dollars 39-cents. That's a penny more than on Monday, but a penny cheaper than a week ago. It's was three-62 this time last month. Triple-A says Hurricane Ian should not cause a spike in pump prices, because the storm's not expected to impact Gulf refineries.

Loaded Gun Found In Judge's Briefcase At Airport

(San Antonio, TX) --A Bexar County judge was in hot water at the airport on Tuesday after a loaded gun was found in her briefcase. The weapon was discovered in Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez's bag as she went through a security checkpoint in San Antonio. The judge says she has the gun for protection in response to threats she regularly receives as someone that presides over a domestic violence court. Judge Gonzalez was not arrested, but could face a fine from T-S-A.

McDonald's To Offer "Adult" Meal Boxes

(Chicago, IL) --McDonald's is now offering toys in "adult" meal boxes. The fast food chain announced it has partnered with Cactus Plant Flea Market, a streetwear brand. The idea is to repackage the chain's popular Happy Meal into something for an older audience. The Cactus Plant Flea Market Box is presented as a Happy Meal style package that includes one of four figurines. Each meal comes with either a Big Mac or ten-piece McNuggets along with fries and a drink and either a Grimace, Hamburglar, Birdie or Cactus Buddy figurine. The Cactus Plant Flea Market Box will be available starting on October 3rd.
