Governor DeSantis Expands Ian-Related State Of Emergency To Cover Entire State

(Tallahassee, FL) --A state of emergency for the entire state is in effect as forecasters say Tropical Storm Ian is likely to become a major hurricane over the next few days. The new declaration expands on an emergency order issued by Governor Ron DeSantis on Friday that initially covered more than two Florida dozen counties.

NASA Scrubs Planned Launch Of Moon Rocket Amid Fears Of Tropical Storm

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- The approach of Tropical Storm Ian is prompting NASA to skip this week's planned launch of a new moon rocket. Officials with the space agency say Tuesday's cancellation marks the third delay for the flight, which will test a new spacecraft designed for lunar orbit.Fuels leaks and other technical issues are blamed for the two previous aborted launches. 

Report: Prosecutors Recommend Not Charging Gaetz

(Pensacola, FL) --Federal prosecutors reportedly are recommending against charging Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz in an investigation into sex trafficking allegations. The Washington Post on Friday cited unnamed sources "familiar with the matter" who said career prosecutors told Justice Department superiors that convicting Gaetz is unlikely because two key witnesses have credibility issues. One of those witnesses is former Seminole County Tax Collector Joel Greenburg, who pleaded guilty to sex trafficking a minor and other charges as part of a plea deal with prosecutors to cooperate in other federal investigations.

Florida Elections Security Chief Pete Antonacci Dies Of Heart Attack

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida's elections security chief, Pete Antonacci has died. The 74-year-old career public servant died of a heart attack while at work Friday afternoon.Antonacci was serving as director of the newly created Office of Elections Crimes and Security. He was deputy attorney general for former Democratic Governor Lawton Chiles and seven governors of both parties often called upon Antonacci to fix serious problems in their administrations.

Man Arrested In Deadly Road Rage Shooting

(Daytona Beach, FL) -- Road-rage is suspected in a deadly shooting in Volusia County. Daytona Beach Police announced yesterday they have arrested Ricardo Gibbs for Saturday's shooting on Vine Street. The 25-year-old victim was taken to the hospital where he died yesterday.The 35-year-old Gibbs is charged with first-degree murder.   

Driver Arrested For Wrong-Way Crash In Brevard County

(Titusville, FL) --Alcohol is suspected in a wrong-way crash in Titusville. It happened Saturday morning on US One near Dairy Road. FHP says Mississippi's Bryan Holifield was driving a Toyota SUV the wrong way when he collided with a Mitsubishi compact SUV. The 47-year-old Holifield suffered minor injuries, and he's facing charges that include drunk driving. His 47-year-old male passenger suffered serious injuries. The 20-year-old Titusville man driving the Mitsubishi suffered critical injuries, and an 18-year-old female passenger from Titusville suffered serious injuries. 

All Three Florida NFL Teams Are In First Place

(Undated) -- The season is off to a good start for Florida's NFL teams. Three weeks into the season, and all three teams are in first place in their divisions.The Miami Dolphins lead the AFC East at 3-and-oh after a 21-19 home win over Buffalo yesterday. The Jacksonville Jaguars lead the AFC South at 2-and-1 after a 38-10 win at the LA Chargers, and despite a loss yesterday, Tampa Bay is in first in the NFC South. The Bucs fell to 2-and-1 after a 14-12 home loss to Green Bay.  

Teenager Hit By Flying Phone

(Oklahoma City, OK) -- An 18-year-old woman is hospitalized in Oklahoma City after being hit by a cell phone while waiting in line the Oklahoma State Fair. Reports say Rebecca Gillespie was hit after the phone came flying out of the pocket of someone already on the ride as it was flipped upside down. Gillespie suffered a traumatic brain injury. Doctors say the impact from the phone was like a small missile or flying object hitting at a high rate of speed. State Fair officials say rides are clearly marked with signs that say no cell phones allowed.
