Florida Inflation Rate Rises
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida is continuing to see costs rise compared to other parts of the country. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows Florida's inflation rate slightly increased compared to the national measure. Specifically in South Florida, the price of food went up ten-percent compared to August of last year. While energy costs in the area rising to almost 28-percent. Similar data collected from other parts of the state will be released next month.
SRO Under Investigation For Child Porn
(Altamonte Springs, FL)-- A police officer in Seminole County could face child porn charges. Altamonte Springs Police said yesterday that Steven Selph is under investigation but has not been charged.Selph was a School Resource Officer at Spring Lake Elementary School, but the district doesn't believe any students are involved. Selph is suspended without pay. He has been with the ASPD for 13 years, and he had been an SRO for the last three.
Woman Rescued After Tree Falls On Home
(Daytona Beach, FL)-- An elderly Volusia County woman is grateful for the help of first responders. Eighty-nine-year-old Katie Speed got trapped in her bedroom yesterday when a tree fell on her home in Daytona Beach. She was taken to the hospital, but she's expected to survive. Her brother says she suffered bruising and swelling on her leg and a few scratches. He also tells WESH 2 News she lives in the house with her daughter, who wasn't home at the time. The house is uninhabitable.
SpaceX Hopes For Launch Tonight
(Cape Canaveral, FL)-- A rocket launch could light up the Space Coast tonight. SpaceX is hoping to launch a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 9:48 p.m. The launch was supposed to go off last night, but it was scrubbed due to the weather. The rocket will be carrying 54 Starlink satellites that'll help SpaceX spread high-speed internet around the world.
Pinellas County Man Dies In Gator Attack
(Largo, FL)-- A Pinellas County man is dead after a gator attack. The Pinellas-Pasco Medical Examiner's Office yesterday announced the cause of death for Largo's Sean McGuinness. Tests determined the 47-year-old drowned during the attack, and he also had cocaine in his system. He was found dead over three months ago after he went into a lake at John S. Taylor Park on 8th Ave Southwest. Police believe he was looking for discs that he could re-sell to disc golf players.
Man Pleads Guilty In Use Of Excavator Against Police
(Hardwick, VT)-- A Hardwick, VT man will spend 90 days in jail for swinging an excavator bucket at police who were trying to arrest his son. The incident involving 52-year-old Wayne Tallman happened in June, when police went to his Scott Road property looking to arrest his 24-year-old son on assault charges. Tallman then wildly swung the excavator to try and interfere with the arrest, and yesterday pleaded guilty to three felonies. The two officers were not injured, but both say they have suffered trauma because of the incident.
What Time You Eat Could Affect Mood
(Boston, MA)-- A new study out of Brigham and Women's Hospital reveals the time of day you eat could affect your mood. It found people who ate both day and night were 26 percent more likely to experience depression-like moods and 16 percent were more likely to feel anxious. The findings suggest timing meals differently may benefit people who have a disrupted circadian rhythm -- the body's natural day/night cycle.
