It was an exciting weekend of college and NFL football. Upsets, overtime and lots of lead changes thrilled fans in what we can only hope is a preview of the season ahead. My Mountaineers took one on the chin at home against Kansas, but our other hometown team- Marshall, knocked off #8 Notre Dame. The NFL excitement was similar in what appeared to be a better start to the season than most first weeks bring.
Oberlin College took a loss leading into the weekend- they will be paying millions to that family bakery it trashed with false claims of racism.
We’ll stay with college shenanigans as BYU has apologized and reinstated a fan it wrongly accused of racism in a recent volleyball incident. The media handled that one as you might expect, but that retraction is not being heard.
Is the Republican Party in the midst of reform? I have my doubts. Cynicism does that for you. Yet, there are some candidates and even House Republicans making the claim. It’s time to put up or shut up. Florida voters will have plenty to say about that come November. We’ll take a look at what our fellow voters are thinking with the election two months away.
