Here’s a recap of the week…
MONDAY
COVID and the CDC are back in the news.IN A HANDBASKET, Philadelphia is trying to enforce its COVID craziness on the rest of the world. The CDC says it wants to reform and be better with information and transparency…and then they issue guidance on Monkeypox.
Disputed reports in Brevard schools could set the state on a path to keep bathroom and locker room genders properly divided.
Tomorrow is Primary Election Day. Everyone could have chosen to participate; I am tired of hearing about Democrats and NPA voters being “locked out." Nothing could be further from the truth.
The New York Times is finally recognizing there is another side to the political spectrum. How it’s handling the realization is something else.
TUESDAY
It’s Primary Election day. Polls will open at 7am and close at 7pm.Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott will join us at 7:42am.
We’ll open the day with a strange suggestion from a Chicago city-dweller who thinks we should all live as he does. I don’t know why he hates us all.
We’ll live in media for a bit as The New York Times will be focusing on right leaning media. Why? To debunk logic and common sense, it would seem. Then, Florida Today’s Never-Ending Story has changed its verbiage in the Sherriff Ivey influence story. They are using actions of an attorneys’ group to ratchet it up.
Dave Bowman joins us in hour three with DAVE DOES HISTORY. Here’s what’s on tap: In the summer of 1922, the Republican Party was in deep trouble. Tradition holds that all Presidents see their parties lose seats in Congress during the mid-terms, but the Administration was facing the loss of seats to its OWN party! While the republicans had trended to become more conservative, there was a significant segment of the party leaning full on into the progressive movement of the era. These progressive Republicans, led by Senator Robert LaFollette were gaining ground fast. All they - and the Democrats - really needed to take Congress was a scandal. And few Presidents in history were better equipped to give the nation a scandal than warren G. Harding...
WEDNESDAY
The primary Election is all but done and we’re off to the November 8th General Election. Just over 27% of eligible Brevard voters turned out. You can see Brevard election results here.
While one seat remains undecided, the Brevard School Board will see a big philosophical shift. Chairman Misty Belford was ousted in strong fashion in a Moms for Liberty and Ron DeSantis backed campaign. Katye Campbell held her D-5 seat in a strong showing and Gene Trent will go to the November runoff with a strong likelihood of pulling off the win in D-2. If that plays out, there will be 3 strong votes for parental rights and Matt Susin, a registered Republican, making an overwhelming majority on the board.
Prime Time Charlie handily defeated Nikki Fried to face off with Governor Ron DeSantis in November. Brevard County Commission seats are settled. Volusia and Indian River Counties controlled the two Republican House nominations. One judicial race was close and the others went to incumbents.
With all of the campaign ads over for now, we’ll open our day with a look at messaging with a twist. I’d like to see it catch on!
I’m election focused today. You can focus wherever you’d like. It’s WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY on BML. What’s on your mind?
THURSDAY
Remember the UCF linebacker with one hand? The kid was impressive and he made it to the NFL. He’s now retiring from the game. His future still looks bright.
The governor’s race between former governor Prime Time Charlie Crist and Governor Ron DeSantis looks to be an interesting one. Crist isn’t off to a stellar start if you ask me. You don’t begin by alienating voters; but what do I know? I’m not a politician who twists in the wind to determine my opinions. Insulting us is not the way into rational voters’ graces.
That doesn’t stop the media from pushing Crist against a governor they’d like to portray as the political reincarnation of Donald Trump.
President Biden got a lesson in law from a federal judge. The lesson: abortion now belongs to the states. Biden’s student loan forgiveness is not being well received and his reaction to that is less than impressive.
Florida Today’[s John Torres joins us in hour-three as we kick the news around on a Thursday edition of Bill Mick LIVE.
FRIDAY
Orlando’s NAACP president is resigning. She says she’s a victim on racism inside the organization. Is she surprised the group is racist?
The Artemis 1 launch is scheduled for Monday morning. Here on the ground, traffic will be a huge concern.
Words have meaning and how we use them determines what is conveyed or understood, if we are willing to look.We plan to do that with several stories today. Seminole Schools will be reviewing social studies textbooks and have invited parents along for the ride. We should see the release of the Mar-a-Lago search affidavit this afternoon. Prime Time Charlie Crist seems to be the media’s favorite in the gubernatorial race. Florida Today, looking at Brevard elections has chosen some interesting words in its reporting and there appears to be a purpose behind the choices (and it’s not informing the public, but swaying public opinion).
Nationally, the Biden student loan forgiveness has garnered a lot of attention and commentary. The act is bizarre and it’s constitutionally is in question.
It’s a lot to get to and we’ll do our best on a BML Friday morning.
