Formal Order Issued Regarding Mar-a-Lago Affidavit

(Palm Beach, FL) -- A Florida judge is officially issuing an order to unseal parts of the affidavit used to justify a raid of former President Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate. The judge is asking the Justice Department to propose redactions by Thursday.The New York Times reports the government could use this to try to persuade officials into keeping all the documents sealed. The order states the search carries "intense public and historical interest" and there has been no justification as of yet to keep the affidavit private.

Florida Warns Colleges About Deadly Drugs

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody is warning college students about deadly drugs as they return to campus.Her office listed fentanyl as the number one killer among adults between 18 and 46 years old. The synthetic opioid has recently been discovered in bright, rainbow colors which is raising concerns that it may be targeting younger users. Another drug, similar to bath salts, is also claiming the lives of a number of residents.Moody's team is launching the Dose of Reality Florida website to provide resources for Floridians.

Charges Recommended For Former Jacksonville Police Chief

(Jacksonville, FL) -- A grand jury is recommending charges against a former Jacksonville school police chief. Officials say Michael P. Edwards is accused of allowing more than two-thousand crimes in schools go unreported during his three years in office ending in 2019. Attorneys representing Edwards told Action News Jax he's thankful for the support he's received during this investigation and is proud of his 36 years of service for Duval County. The grand jury believes Edwards should face three charges, including falsifying records.

Osceola County SRO Found To Have Used Excessive Force

(Kissimmee, FL) --An Osceola County student can move forward with a lawsuit against a former school resource officer. An appeals court ruled yesterday that Kissimmee Middle School SRO Mario Badia [[buh-DEE-uh]] used excessive force against Trellus Richmond seven years ago. Badia confronted the 13-year-old seventh grader for an incident between the boy and his mother, and he threw Richmond to the floor. Richmond filed a civil suit, but a district judge ruled Badia had qualified immunity. Richmond appealed, and judges now say Badia lacks immunity because his actions were excessive. They say Richmond was non-hostile, non-violent and was obeying instructions when he was thrown to the floor. 

Man Arrested For Attempted Carjacking In Volusia County

(Daytona Beach Shores, FL) -- A man is facing charges after fighting with public safety officers in Volusia County.Daytona Beach Shores Public Safety officers arrested Christopher McHaffie Sunday for attempted carjacking.The 46-year-old allegedly resisted arrest and left officers with minor injuries. He's facing charges that include resisting an officer with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer. 

Chase Ends With Driver Crashing Into FHP Cruiser

(Tampa, FL) --Five people are hurt after a chase in Hillsborough County that ended when a car rammed an FHP cruiser. The chase started yesterday afternoon when troopers saw a Nissan Altima possibly connected to an incident in Polk County.The driver refused to pull over and wound up hitting four cars on Fowler Ave. FHP says the driver and four passengers then got into an SUV and intentionally rammed an unoccupied cruiser on 50th Street. The driver and passengers suffered minor injuries, but no troopers were hurt. Two people, including the driver, were arrested.          

Monopoly Introduces Hialeah Edition

(Hialeah Gardens, FL) -- Monopoly is unveiling its latest board game with a special connection to South Florida.The company launched "Hialeah-Opoly" over the weekend. It features locations known around the area, including the Opa-Locka Flea Market.WSVN-TV reports the games were sold at Walmart and immediately sold out. There's no word yet on when they'll be restocked.

Election Day

It’s Primary Election Day in Florida. Polls will open at 7am and close at 7pm. Voters in line to vote when polls close will be allowed to vote. Mail ballots may not be voted at the polling place, but may be surrendered there and the voters may vote in their precincts. Supervisor of Elections Lori Scott will be with us at 7:42 on Bill Mick LIVE.
