Three Arrested For Voting Illegally In Orange County
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) -- Three Orange County residents are accused of voting illegally in the 2020 election. The FDLE recently arrested them and 14 others across the state for violating election laws. The FDLE said yesterday the suspects are convicted felons who are ineligible to vote. The local suspects range in age from 52 to 72, and two live in Orlando while the other lives in Eatonville. They could each get up to five years in prison. The FDLE's acting commissioner says we'll do everything in our power to ensure those who cannot legally vote never cast a ballot.
Deadly Lightning Strike In Seminole County
(Winter Springs, FL) -- A woman is dead after a lightning strike in Seminole County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Winter Springs near Trotwood Park. Police say lightning hit a tree, energizing the area and striking the woman, her child, an 18-year-old woman and a dog. The teenager, the child and the dog are expected to survive. Seminole County school officials say the woman who died is the mother of a Keeth Elementary School student.
SpaceX Planning Launch For This Afternoon
(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- The weather today may not comply with SpaceX's plans. The company hopes to launch a Falcon 9 rocket at 3:21 this afternoon at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The rocket will carry 53 Starlink satellites into low-Earth orbit to spread high-speed internet around the world. Launch conditions, though, are only 50 percent Go. The backup date is tomorrow at 2:59 p.m.
Woman And Child Escape Train Collision
(Miami, FL) --A woman and her child are lucky to be alive after a train hit their SUV in Miami-Dade County. It happened yesterday afternoon in North Miami at a railroad crossing at Biscayne Boulevard and Northeast 141st Street. The SUV was apparently stopped on the tracks with the gate down as a Brightline train approached. The woman and her child were able to get out of the car shortly before the collision. A man who works nearby tells CBS4 it almost sounded like a bomb.
Bradford County Deputy Resigns Over Incident With Pregnant Woman
(Starke, FL) --A Bradford County deputy is out of work for how he behaved during a traffic stop. Sheriff Gordon Smith said yesterday that he ordered Deputy Jacob Desue to resign after reviewing body cam footage of Friday's incident. The video shows Desue pulling a gun on a pregnant woman in the presence of her three children. Smith says the woman behaved exactly like she should, but Desue behaved inappropriately. He tells First Coast News a lot of things that an officer should do in that situation were not done.
Miami Firefighter Relieved Of Duty For Post About Echaverry
(Miami, FL) --A Miami firefighter is out of a job because of a social media post about a deadly police shooting. Fire Chief Joseph Zahralban [[zuh-RAHL-bin]] announced last night that the firefighter was relieved of duty pending an investigation into a post on WhatsApp. After Miami-Dade Police Officer Cesar Echaverry died this week from injuries he suffered in an on-duty shooting, the firefighter wrote 'all cops are for is protecting the rich property owners and the status quo,' and he added, '[[bleep]] the police.' Chief Zahralban says the post does not reflect the values of our organization, and we continue to stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in law enforcement. He did not identify the firefighter, but some news outlets are reporting he's Kevin Newcomb.
Marion County Man Arrested For Death Of Whitey Bulger
(Clarksburg, WV) --A Marion County man is facing charges for the prison death of a notorious gangster. The US Justice Department announced yesterday that Ocala's Sean McKinnon was arrested for his role in the beating death of Whitey Bulger. The 36-year-old McKinnon and two other inmates allegedly conspired to kill the 89-year-old Bulger at a federal prison in West Virginia four years ago. There's no word on a motive.
AR Woman Stole Body Parts, Sold Them On Facebook
(Undated) --Authorities say an Arkansas woman stole body parts from a mortuary and then sold them on Facebook. A Pennsylvania man allegedly purchased the human remains from a woman identified in court documents as Candace Scott. He stored brains, hands, hearts, lungs and skin in his basement. Someone made the gristly discovery and called police in Pennsylvania, who worked with Arkansas FBI agents. They determined the remains were the property of the University of Arkansas, and had been stolen from an area mortuary then mailed via United States Postal Service. Jeremy Pauley of Pennsylvania is facing numerous criminal charges.
