Brevard Resource Officer To Carry Rifles

(Melbourne, FL) --Brevard Public Schools says its resource officers will start carrying rifles on campus. Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey says deputies will get the new uniform in the coming weeks. Ivey says he believes you have to meet violence with violence to survive. The safety efforts are meant to instantly address a threat to save students and teachers.

Orange County Voters Can Decide On Rent Control Proposal

(Orlando, FL) --A controversial measure to slow the rise of rent prices will go before voters in Orange County. The county commission voted yesterday to put a rent control measure on November's ballot. Commissioner Emily Bonilla's proposal calls for rental increases to be capped at five-percent or the inflation rate, whichever is lower. Critics say this could lead to less available rental properties.

Man Arrested For Machete Attack

(DeLand, FL) --A man is in jail after a bizarre incident in Volusia County. Brandon Wright was arrested Monday in DeLand after allegedly confronting a surveyor at the Fairgrounds while naked and waving a machete. The sheriff's office says Wright demanded the man hand over his clothes, wallet and phone. While the man was following Wright's orders, Wright threw a machete at him and took off.The man was not hurt. Wright was later found naked outside a gas station on Spring Garden Ave and was arrested. The 34-year-old is facing charges that include attempted robbery with a deadly weapon. 

Trump Supporters Rally In Little Havana

(Miami, FL) --Donald Trump still has vocal supporters in Miami. A pro-Trump rally was held yesterday in Little Havana following the FBI raid on his home the day before. Supporters gathered outside the Versailles Restaurant on Southwest 8th Street. They tell CBS4 Trump is being unfairly attacked, but they still love him and believe he'll be president again one day.

Florida Ranks 35th In Child Well Being

(Tallahassee, FL) --Florida gets low marks when it comes to childrens' overall health. The Annie E. Casey Foundation this week released the 2022 Kids Count Data Book Interactive. It ranks all states on child well being, and it ranks Florida 35th. We rank as high as 13th in education but as low as 42nd in economic well being. The survey finds fewer children are living in poverty compared to eight years earlier, but the rate of child and teen deaths is up. Massachusetts ranks first in child well being, and New Mexico ranks 50th.

Wild Horse Gets Help For Trapped Foal

(Lakeview, OR) --A wild horse got the attention of a Bureau of Land Management specialist last week to rescue a foal that was trapped in a muddy watering hole. In rural Eastern Oregon, Blair Street, a Wild Horse and Burro Specialist for the BLM, had a wild horse approach her truck and then run toward a ridge several times, which is odd behavior for a wild horse. Street followed the horse and found the foal exhausted in the mud. Street tied a rope around the rear of the horse and pulled it free. She stayed with the animal until it regained its strength and returned to its mother, who had been on a nearby ridge watching the whole time.

Department Of Army Looking Into Combat Bras

(Natick, MA) --A combat-ready bra could become part of a female Army soldier's uniform. The "Army tactical brassiere" is still in development at the US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center or DEVCOM at a base in Natick, Massachusetts.  This bra is going through a lot of testing, including flame-resistant testing.
