State Appeals Court Upholds Removal Of Confederate Monument

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A rural North Florida town is now able to remove a Confederate monument from its park. A state appeals court is upholding a ruling by a Madison judge by dismissing a series of arguments against moving the statue of Confederate soldiers. Those fighting against the decision included people whose ancestors were represented on the monument's plaque. They called the removal process a violation of free speech.

Uhuru Defends Themselves

(St. Petersburg, FL) -- Political leaders in St. Petersburg are defending their links with Russia. In a press conference Thursday they said recent links between themselves and Russian intelligence were not significant in terms of the United States defense.  The Uhuru Movement is a Black power movement in St. Pete that has previously supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine. 

New Safety Protocols In Place In Downtown Orlando This Weekend

(Orlando, FL) --City officials are focusing on safety in downtown Orlando following a string of recent shootings. Starting tonight, the city will be surrounded by controlled security checkpoints. Every person coming to the downtown area will be searched, with the hope of cracking down on gun violence.

South Daytona Cheer Coach Extradited From Kansas

(South Daytona, FL) -- A former South Daytona cheer coach accused of inappropriate behavior is back in Florida after being extradited from Kansas. Investigators say Erick Kristianson exposed himself to three teenage girls during a FaceTime call and touched himself. He is now facing an additional charge of molestation. 

Miami Sex Assault Attorney Accused of Sexual Assault

(Miami, FL) --A Miami attorney who specializes in representing sexual assault victims is now accused of one himself. Thirty-nine-year-old Adam Bair faced a Miami-Dade judge yesterday on charges of sexual battery and false imprisonment. The 24-year-old victim told Miami police that she went to Bair's apartment on July 20th under the belief that he was "going to show her a court case video," but instead, police allege he began to kiss and fondle her before ultimately pushing her onto his bed and forcing her to have sex with him. Bair says he is a victim of sexual abuse himself and that the allegations are all "lies."

Tampa Introducing Golf Carts

(Tampa, FL) --Downtown Tampa is introducing golf carts as a mode of transport. Residents downtown already have the option of a tram or electric bikes but now golf carts are also an option. Companies downtown are offering the vehicle for rent and lawmakers are considering a move towards more of them being present.

Python Challenge Kicks Off Tomorrow

(Miami, FL) -- The annual python challenge is kicking off tomorrow in South Florida. The ten-day event takes place primarily in the Everglades and allows people to catch Burmese pythons with the potential to win money for the most caught and longest snake, which holds a current record of almost 19-feet. The goal is to raise awareness of the invasive species in the state and remove them from the ecosystem. People who capture the most can earn up to 25-hundred dollars.
