Here’s a recap of the week…

MONDAY

One of the most brilliant ad runs I can recall was Ford Motor Company’s “Ford has a better idea” campaign. It incorporated Fords vehicles and a light bulb that illuminated at the end of the ads.It was brilliant. That brilliance has faded and has Ford IN A HANDBASKET this morning.

Does anyone pay attention to the World Health Organization anymore? Should they? After this announcement, I’m guessing NO! After 5 worldwide deaths the WHO is calling Monkeypox a global health emergency. I'm no doctor, but I’m pretty sure it’s not.

We have become a panicked people as a couple of stories in Mick’s Morning News will show us.It pays to be aware of your surroundings, but then the mob panics, what are you to do?

Palm Bay is in the current Florida House District 53 and the Indian River Lagoon runs through both. The D-53 representative thinks he runs the world and regularly shows that he wants to.His ongoing flap with several political figures is indicative of his abrasive and controlling personality. We have examples.

Our candidate interviews continue thus morning with School Board District 2 candidates featured today and Wednesday.

TUESDAY

We supposedly live in “the information age.” But do we? We may be well informed, but are we more literate than previous generations? I highly doubt it. We have all kinds of information at our fingertips, but is it trustworthy? Are we qualified to determine that? And just because the information distribution is legal, does that make it ethical? I believe we know better than that. We are inundated with information, but there are forces attempting to control our understanding. That’s where we have a problem.

We’ll begin with why we can’t have nice things. We’ll move into information and we’ll close with history and just what we think we know. As usual, Dave Bowman will make us consider our current understanding in a new light.

DAVE DOES HISTORY returns at 8am. Dave has a pet peeve and it goes something like this: We think of our country today as "more divided than ever." I mean, "everybody knows" that, right? Putting aside for the moment, the US Civil War, is this a time when we are the "most divided ever?" Dave says, “Believe me when I tell you this: what "everybody knows" is wrong...”

WEDNESDAY

When we can’t speak the truth, real understanding is impossible. The truth has won out in the latest Lia Thomas saga. That has the he/she swimmer IN A HANDBASKET as we begin our day.

When the media calls for censorship there are less of us actually seeking to be grounded in reality. When a disease gets COVID attention, but it mostly impacts one fringe element of society- and it’s rarely mentioned, we have lost perspective.

When voters and the press claim confusion with simple instructions, we have allowed the stupid to participate in choosing our officials.

When the Russians are bailing out on the International Space Station, are we entering a new space race?

When it’s WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY what do we discuss? We’ll talk any of these stories or whatever you bring to the table on this one day where it’s all up to you.

We completed School Board D-2 candidate interviews on today’s show.

THURSDAY

We are finally getting some perspective on the impact of boys in girls’ locker rooms. Lia Thomas has had an impact on translete issues, but I’m pretty sure that in the end, it won’t be the one he wanted.

Simply to make Brody happy we’ll have a couple of stories about cops. In one, they are begging for mercy from the abuse they are facing at the hands of idiots in Portland. In the other, cops elsewhere in Oregon seem to have the public’s support…and help in doing their jobs.

I have long said that money donated to political parties is a waste. We have the perfect example in the Florida GOP.

John Torres is back in our final hour. He’s moderating Florida Today’s candidate forums, which can be a chore. He’s also penned a couple of recent columns that we’ll bring into play.

FRIDAY

We enter the final stages of our candidate interviews today with state House D-30 candidates at 7:40 and 8:40. Monday’s D-34 House candidates will close us out for the Primary Season.

It seems the media is catching up to where we were yesterday…calling Monkeypox what it is, a gay man’s disease. Too many folks were wrapped up in the idea of stigmatizing gays that protecting them got lost in the weeds. Some folks let their agenda and political correctness get in the way of facts that could actually be helpful.

When reactionary people get involved in politics the results are rarely good. Sometimes the stupid brings unthought-of penalties.

Since the county commission decided a $30m handout to a developer for one hotel property was a good idea, one commissioner says if it’s good for one, it’s good for all. Maybe he’s on to something.

Florida says the Biden era LGBT rules for schools may be ignored. It’s about time someone stood up against the idiocy. Now, will our schools follow suit?

We have all that and our candidate interviews on this Friday edition of BML.
