MICKnuggets

Each day Bill records a MICKnugget, a one-minute take on some issue that got his attention that morning. Below are the scripts for last week’s NUGGETS.

07.25.22- The Reactionary Representative

We need to be better at elections. No, not how they are conducted, but how we vote.

Getting to know a candidate can be tough, especially if it’s their first run for office. But, if it’s not, there is a record to evaluate. A voting record, for sure, but also a record of how the candidate has conducted himself in office. That’s important, too.

The current Florida House D-53 representative has become the vindictive, reactionary representative. That does not serve his constituents well at all.

Most recently the D-53 rep has withdrawn his support for Indian River Lagoon funding in reaction to a county commission decision on unrelated Tourism Development funding.

Voicing disapproval is one thing. Being vindictive and harming lagoon restoration efforts is another thing altogether. That hurts the entire county and adds insult to injury, which is par for the course for the Retaliatory Representative from D-53.

07.26.22- DISinformation

Today we talk DIS-information with the emphasis on DIS, as in disrespect of we the people.

From all sides people are trying to manipulate us. Politicians, governments, corporations, activist groups- they all want control of the information we receive and thereby control of our very thoughts.

And…we allow it. It’s too easy to just let it happen. We believe something, or even suspect it and see one piece of validating information, and we are all over it! We have been affirmed.

But, have we, really? Maybe not.

An Orlando Sentinel investigation revealed a web news entity that sold controlling interest in its publication to an operative for FPL.

Why? There was pending legislation and ballot initiatives that would impact FPL’s business. If they controlled the news entity, they controlled the news relating to them.

It's not new, but it is news, and we need to remain aware!

07.27.22- Voting Isn’t Hard

Voting isn’t hard, but maybe it should be.

Apparently, we allow the stupid to vote. If we’re to believe the whining of Democratic leaders, it’s confusing.

Maybe it is for Democrats!

There are four democrats running for the nomination to run against Governor Ron DeSantis. The primary ballots, by law, list the office as Governor and Lt. Governor and says to vote for one.

There are 4 names with bubbles to fill in beside them. The instructions say VOTE FOR ONE. How difficult can this be?

Yet, the leader of Brevard Democrats is confused by this and says she has been since 2018. Did you urge your state party to do anything about it? How about your legislators?

Are you doing anything to educate your voters if you really believe this is a problem?

It’s not tough, or is it that you really just want to whine?

07.28.22- Abusing Donors- RPOF

We talked about abuse on Thursday’s show. All kinds of abuse.

The one that irks me is the abuse of donors to the RPOF. See, that abuse extends beyond the donor to all of Florida’s voters and citizens.

The RPOF donated a million dollars to four political action committees. All 4 PACs are controlled by one man.

People who were thinking they were helping Republicans get elected, instead got the shaft. Their dollars would have been better donated to individual candidates they supported.

Now one man, through these PACs, will use those dollars to advance the political elite’s causes and candidates to further empower the already powerful.

It’s a disservice to the donors and to the entire state.

The rules governing PACs and their spending need serious revision. Officials with integrity would advocate for that.

Until then, the abuse will continue.

07.29.22- Florida Fighting Back

The LGBT agenda is prevalent in America’s schools. The Biden administration is supportive of that agenda.

Florida is standing up and saying no.

The state Department of Education issued a memo Thursday saying the state won’t tolerate the imposition of sexual ideology in our schools.

Education Commissioner Manny Diaz says the edicts from Washington are not binding law and they don’t create any new legal obligations for our schools.

Florida is willing to put the safety of students and the rights of parents first and that’s as it should be.

If it means refusing funding from DC, I hope their resolve is as strong.

There are clear lines of right and wrong, no matter who wants to blur them. It’s good to see Florida standing on the proper side of that line.

I just hope Florida has the courage to not cave because of money!
