(Tallahassee, FL)-- The state of Florida is hoping a new law will help fix the teacher shortage.The state is changing its requirements to give more veterans education opportunities. Under the new legislation, vets will be able to teach if they have served for at least two years, have 60 college credits and pass a required test. This comes a month before schools across the state reopen with 95-thousand teaching vacancies.

Family Seeking Justice After Deadly Hit & Run In Brevard County
(Palm Bay, FL)-- A Brevard County family is pleading for justice after a deadly hit-and-run. Palm Bay's John Clouser was killed last week while riding his motorcycle on I-95 near mile marker 180. Investigators are looking for a white or light-colored Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck that a witness reports fled the scene. The 70-year-old's funeral is set for this week, and his daughter tells News 6 it's heartbreaking to know there are people out there that are so cruel that they wouldn't stop to help him.
Man Arrested For Impersonating Police Officer
(Tampa, FL)-- A Tampa man is accused of impersonating a police officer. John Inglis was arrested Saturday after he allegedly pulled over a driver. Investigators found more complaints, including one case where the 26-year-old allegedly pulled over a driver on I-75 and took their gun. Tampa Police say if pulled over you can call 911 and give the dispatcher the officer's name and badge number to confirm they're real.
FHP Part Of Operation Southern Slow Down
(Tallahassee, FL)-- The FHP is part of a new regional effort to prevent deadly crashes.Florida yesterday joined Operation Southern Slow Down. Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee are also part of the effort.The goal is to get drivers to slow down and reduce crashes and the severity of those crashes.
FSCJ Awarded State Money For Civics Academy
(Jacksonville, FL)-- Florida State College at Jacksonville will be part of the governor's plan to start what he calls a national model for preparing students for public service. Governor Ron DeSantis announced yesterday that FSCJ and two other schools will share six-and-a-half million dollars to launch The Civics Academies. He says the academies will allow students to pursue careers in government while learning about the importance of public trust, efficiency and the values of our state and nation. FSCJ's president says they're honored to help lead the way for quality workforce civic education in the state and beyond.

Cows Stop Traffic In Osceola County
(St. Cloud, FL)-- Cows are partly responsible for tying up traffic in Osceola County.A truck carrying about 70 cows caught fire yesterday morning on the Florida Turnpike in St. Cloud at mile marker 226. To prevent the cows from being trapped in the fire, the driver let them out of the trailer they were in, and the turnpike was closed for hours until they could all be recovered. No one was hurt.
Man Arrested For Pointing Gun At People Who Didn't Say "Thank You"
(Hamden, CT)-- A Connecticut man apparently just wanted a little courtesy. Joshua Murray was arrested in Hamden Saturday near a Family Dollar after allegedly pointing a gun at two women who didn't say "thank you" after he held the door for them. Murray allegedly didn't have a permit for the weapon, a felony in Connecticut.
