Here’s a recap of the week…
MONDAY
With our candidate interviews beginning today, and what the political climate is in the country, we have to wonder why folks even consider running for office. Political differences will always exist; they always have. But now, the game has changed and it’s not for the better. People are willing to play for others to harass even our Supreme Court Justices and their families. Some folks think it’s funny.
Then we are taking disciplinary action against Border Patrol officers in order to justify political lies. A retired Army 3-star general has been suspended from his civilian duties for the military because he issued an offensive tweet.
Locally a disgraced soldier has returned a flag he was given by the Palm Bay mayor on Independence Day. The controversy has generated policy discussion in the city, but it seems nobody is questioning the use of funds for the practice.
Our primary season candidate interviews begin at 7:40 with County Commission D-2. Joey Cholewa will join us for the first of these looks at our candidates. Tom Goodson has been invited for our 8:40 segment, but has not responded to the invitation.
TUESDAY
Glenn Beck was saying something interesting yesterday. He was detailing five points that lead to oppressive governments. One of the five was controlling language- how we communicate with each other and the words that are used. Regardless of where we are headed, we see this in our culture today. Words twisted, definitions changed and those who don’t comply being ridiculed and dismissed. It's even happening in churches. The Church of England is IN A HANDBASKET this morning.
Then, what have we done to ourselves? We adapted through the pandemic and made remote work and meetings prevalent. It’s gone from prevalent to preferred. As employers return to a more normal environment, employees are asserting themselves and fighting to stay home, finding employment that will allow that or even quitting their jobs rather than head back to the office.
In Brevard our schools have dropped a grade or so, the district seems to have trouble understanding decency and the Charter Review Commission has found a way to board member recall in front of voters. Of course, we learn all of this from the media…
And with DAVE DOES HISTORY, it's a common idea today that "we don't trust the media."
There's almost a mantra that this is a relatively new thing, and that no matter what side of the political fence you happen to be ion, the "media" is automatically presumed to be fully serving as a water carrying propaganda arm of the other side.
In recent days, we have seen another story that reignites this debate. Just three days after the Dobbs ruling by the Supreme Court, the Indiana Star reported that women were coming from Ohio for "reproductive care."
Among the patients referred to the Indiana clinic was a 10 year old incest victim.
Or... was there?
WEDNESDAY
County Commission candidates Christopher Hattaway and Dave Netterstrom will conclude our interviews for the District-2 seat. Hattaway is scheduled at 7:40 with Netterstrom closing our day at 8:40.
The rest of our day is up to you; it’s WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY.
We’ll open the day with the pot calling the kettle black as the AFT president says schools have become too politicized. Her real problem is that parents have become engaged. The theme continues with more stories of the education nightmare in America.
We also have an example of the kind of person we don’t want to elect. Flagler missed the mark with this one. Let’s hope Brevard can avoid that kind of mistake.
Outside our candidate interviews, the day is up to you. What’s it going to be?
THURSDAY
Starbucks may be reaping just what it sowed. The company that is famous for overpriced coffee, less than stellar food selection and its leftist politics is closing stored because of the environment it helped to usher in. It’s not alone. 7/11, which may be the inspiration for the term ‘stop and rob,” is also in closing mode as it offers a reward for a string of robberies and a murder at its CA locations.
Moms for Liberty is hosting its National Summit in Tampa beginning today. The fast growing education action group is getting some well deserved recognition for its accomplishments in just a year and a half of existence.
Local officials are talking about bucking the proposed Brevard school tax hike, but it is anything more than political grandstanding?
On the national front, one senator is taking heat for refusing to shun the reality that only women can become pregnant and John Bolton is catching flak for his comments on January 6 not being a coup because he knows what coup is after planning at least one as an American intelligence official.
Candidate interviews will continue tomorrow with School Board D-1 in focus.
FRIDAY
As Moms for Liberty hosts their national summit in Tampa we open our day with Schools vs Parents IN A HANDBASKET.
It is election season. It means the politics of politics will play out around us and will, at some times, amaze us with the lack of knowledge of those who believe they understand and can operate successfully in that world. What they don’t know is often astounding. The actions they take can be even more so.
When a sitting office holder doesn’t know that changing his address to another county will change his voter registration, maybe he shouldn’t have been in office in the first place. When a committee that is the official arm of the Republican Party in the county is still fighting the 2020 election it has exactly ZERO leadership or understanding of its job. And when a politically influential sheriff reportedly tries to urge candidates out of other races, is the sheriff’s favored candidate really the juggernaut he claims? And as for those candidates, new to the game, did they correctly interpret the sheriff’s comments? Do they believe the press is their friend in this situation?
The political games are afoot in Brevard County and we’ll talk them this morning on BML. School Board Member Misty Belford would like to keep her job (Lord knows why) and will be with us for today’s interview at 7:40.
