Each day Bill records a MICKnugget, a one-minute take on some issue that got his attention that morning. Below are the scripts for last week’s NUGGETS.

07.11.22- Talking to Candidates
The process by which we change our governments is under way. We do our part with candidate interviews hoping to better inform you about the choices we face.
This week we begin with County Commission District 2 and School Board District 1.
As the interviews are accomplished, we’ll post them to one location at BillMick.com for easy access and review and keep them near the top of the page.
We’ll get to know a little about the candidates’ background, experience, political philosophy and goals.
Then, it’s up to us to make the call based on the best information available.
Citizenship is not easy if we are to do it correctly. It takes work and concentration.
We hope to help with these interviews and will keep them available leading up to election day.
The rest is up to you.
07.12.22- The Cultural Shift
Maybe it was brought on by THE RONA. Maybe it was culmination of things, but our culture is shifting.
Some of it is for the better; some of it definitely is not.
The Church of England now refuses to define the term woman. It had no previous definition because it used to be self-evident. Now the church says it requires “additional care” to define it.
Employers have always controlled working conditions, like showing up for work. Now, over 300 employees of the State of Virginia have quit their jobs because remote work is ending.
In Brevard school grades are out for the first time since the pandemic. The results show that remote learning didn’t work, but remote learning did get parents involved and outraged at what they see from our schools.
Words, work, education and our society are in flux, and it’s not all bad, but it’s not all good.
Common sense needs to take a stand.
07.13.22- The Wrong Candidates
In every election we select people to serve us in managing our governments. Sometimes we make the wrong call.
Pompano Beach’s Vice Mayor, Beverly Perkins, was recently stopped for a traffic violation in Fort Lauderdale. Her conduct showed an elitist attitude as she was caught on video cursing the officer who stopped her.
Her apology made things worse. “If any exchange on my part is perceived as being disrespectful, I apologize,” she said. That’s not an apology as it fails to acknowledge any wrongdoing or actually apologize to the officer.
Then Flagler County Commissioner Joe Mullins was stopped on I-4 in Central Florida where he berated FHP officers about who he was and his government position.
His letter to the judge said he was distracted by a conference call as he committed to pay more attention.
13 days later Mullins was pulled over for doing 92 on I-95. Mullins said. I run the county,” to that trooper.
We need to elect a better class of people!
07.14.22- Altered States
Altered States, or self-perception, don’t change reality. But we are expected to buy in from those who would force their world views on the rest of us.
Senator Josh Hawley, in a Senate hearing, questioned a witness using the term “people with the capacity for pregnancy.”
Hawley was vilified by the Washington Post as being transphobic.
Expectations that society accept presentations of such an altered reality are astounding.
Biology is biology. Reality is reality and, no matter what you call something or someone, it is what it is.
The same concept has infiltrated our education system for decades and finally someone is fighting it and doing so successfully.
Moms for Liberty is holding their Annual Summit in Tampa this weekend. It’s a celebration of a year and a half of unprecedented success. Congrats, M4L.
Keep up the good work. America needs you!
07.15.22- Shenanigan Season
It’s Primary election season and the games are afoot. I call it Shenanigan Season for good reason.
First, a Cocoa Beach City Commissioner did not know changing his address to out of county would knock him out of eligibility to vote or hold office here.
Then, the Brevard Republican Exec Committee goes on another resolution spree that takes them away from their only job and, in fact, runs counter to it.
Lastly, Florida Today in its never-ending quest to trash Sheriff Wayne Ivey runs a story about Ivey’s political influence and attempts to get candidates to drop out of certain races in favor of his favored candidates.
Two Republican candidates say the sheriff offered them government jobs if they exited their races and supported his candidates. The sheriff refused to address the Florida Today story so we don’t have his take on it.
Shenanigans are par for the course. Rookie candidates are learning a lesson. Politics isn’t a game for the uninitiated.
And we? We get to watch the circus!
