Florida's Abortion Ban Stays In Place Following Latest Ruling

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida's 15-week abortion ban will remain in place amid ongoing legal battles. Judge John Cooper denied a request from abortion clinics yesterday to temporarily end the stay while legal conflict continue. It was last week when the Tallahassee judge issued a temporary injunction to block the law after it took effect. The state immediately appealed and the law has since been in place. Abortion clinics can ask an appeals court to pause the abortion ban, but it's unclear if or when a ruling would surface.

Three Sentenced For PPE Theft

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- Three men are going to federal prison for what prosecutors call one of the country's largest PPE theft rings. The Justice Department announced yesterday that Alexander Jolly, Kenold Million and Pietro Sinclair were sentenced yesterday to 28 months each, and they were ordered to pay almost half-a-million dollars in restitution. They stole over 8-and-a-half million gloves, almost 60-thousand N-95 masks and gowns from a medical supply warehouse in Sunrise where Jolly and Million worked. Sinclair worked for the trucking company that the medical supply company used to make shipments to hospitals. He would pick up the stolen goods from the warehouse and drop them off at a home Jolly and Million shared in Fort Lauderdale.

State-Backed Insurer Hits Record Clientele Amid Rate Hikes

(Tallahassee, FL) -- A state-backed insurance company is expected to face a record-number of customers by the end of the year. Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is typically used as a last resort for customers, but now is planning to take in more than a million customers. This is because other companies are filing for bankruptcy or raising their rates. State lawmakers made a series of legislation changes back in May hoping to curb some of these issues.

Brevard County Has Over 100 Teacher Vacancies

(Titusville, FL)-- It's looking more likely that Brevard County will start the school year with fewer teachers than it needs. District officials said yesterday there are over 130 teacher vacancies less than a month before classes start on August 10th. A spokesman says it's a concern, but they're spending extra attention to make sure kids have a teacher in front of them on Day One. The head of the teachers union tells News 6 with so many vacancies, the district will, once again, put more on teachers while offering them raises far below what other districts are offering.

Lake County Deputy Arrested For Solicitation

(Tavares, FL)-- A Lake County deputy finds himself on the wrong side of the law.Sergeant Scott Stone was arrested yesterday for soliciting a prostitute. The sheriff's office says an investigation that started four months ago found Scott paid for sex more than once between June 2021 and this February. On at least one occasion, Scott allegedly did so while on duty.

Homeless Advocate Arrested For Opening Portable Toilets

(Pensacola, FL)-- A prominent advocate for the homeless is facing charges for allowing the homeless to use a portable toilet in Pensacola. Alfred-Washburn Center CEO Michael Kimberl was arrested two weeks ago for allegedly cutting off the lock on port-a-potty at MLK Plaza so a homeless woman could use it. The Downtown Improvement Board rents the toilets for the Palafox Market, and it says it had noticed the locks being cut off for the last three months. Police say they caught the 46-year Kimberl in the act, and they say while this might seem like a petty crime, the fact remains that Kimberl was damaging someone else's property.

Sarasota Man Recalls Working On New Top Gun Movie

(Sarasota, FL)-- A Sarasota man can watch the new Top Gun movie with pride. Navy veteran Brian Ferguson used his expertise as a fighter jet pilot to work on the film as a technical adviser. It was a fitting mission as Ferguson was inspired to become a Navy pilot after seeing the first Top Gun movie in 1986 when he was 17-years-old. He recently told Fox 13 News he hopes this film inspires today's youth the same way the first film inspired him.

Anchorage PD Investigates 'White Privilege Card' Claim

(Anchorage, AK)-- The Anchorage Police Department is investigating an incident where a woman claimed on social media she used a "white privilege card" instead of a drivers license when being pulled over. Anchorage Daily News reports the woman, Mimi Israelah, traveled from California and was in the area for former President Trump's political rally last weekend. In the now-deleted Facebook post, Israelah could allegedly be seen posing with an apparent APD officer while holding the card and smiling. It's unclear if the woman was cited or if there will be disciplinary action taken against the officers involved.
