Here’s a recap of the week…

MONDAY

Independence Day!

TUESDAY

We celebrated America over the weekend. Flags, parades, cookouts, family and…tragedy were all in play. Shootings in multiple locations brought a dark cloud over the celebration for many. Threats of violence and continued division were present in others. The weekend began with Orlando embarrassing itself with its event announcement.

While most of us had a rather typical holiday, the signs of division were prevalent. From threats to our nation’s institutions like law enforcement and the courts to violence at parades across the country, the institutions and traditions of America are under attack.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident…” But, how many Declarations were there? Dave Bowman answers that question as we jump into the “wayback machine” for today’s edition of DAVE DOES HISTORY in our 8am hour.

WEDNESDAY

WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY gives you the latitude to bring any topic to our conversation. Get your ideas in play at any point in the show at 321.768.1240.

For my part education, elections and the July 4th Illinois shooter are on my mind. That shooter had a history; it wasn’t good, but it wasn’t bad enough to put him away. Where were his parents? It appears they were being part of the problem.

On the education front, the Biden administration is redefining sex to push the LGBT agenda and one Democrat is making sense as she speaks out against the idea. There are some states improving choice in education. Florida has not taken the big step. It should.

As Primary Election season heats up, today’s INSIDER COLUMN will look at political parties and their lack of effectiveness. Some folks, even in media, don’t understand the two-party system and the political wrangling that is part of it. The failure of some to look forward instead of back and the stupidity of the extremists has good folks leaving election management. When threats are preferred to questions and understanding, who would want to subject themselves to the idiocy?

Candidates, your invitation to appear in our interviews that begin next week are posted at BillMick.com and on each day’s show page. I won’t chase you, but the invitation is there. Please email me if you plan to attend.

THURSDAY

Is the sports world waking up? Maybe so. IN A HANDBASKET we’ll see a man banned from women’s competition because, well, he’s a man.I’ll take it as a good sign.

Politicians are notorious for being elitist. They just don’t have to play by the same rules as the rest of us. That may be changing. Chicago’s mayor has been caught in a huge inconsistency. Pot, let us introduce you to the kettle.

Politicians are also known to pander to all kinds of people and causes, it’s what they do. In Palm Bay the mayor is taking some heat for a recent award to a veteran. The veteran was convicted of military crimes. So, the mayor or his staff did not do their due diligence before the grandstanding move. That’s not the big problem. The problem is the load of crap the politicians, not just the mayor, tried to feed us as they pander even more.

Red Flag Laws are all the rage. They’re seen as an answer to America’s problem with violence brought by bad guys wielding firearms. Reality contradicts that, including the Independence Day shooting in Highland Park, IL.

Florida Today Engagement Editor John Torres is with us in hour three. We’ll talk the upcoming elections and what John has pending for the weekend.

FRIDAY

Moms for Liberty has been standing up for kids, families and the country since its inception. They are being effective and nothing is better evidence of that than how the teachers unions are playing defense. At its annual conference the NEA has proposed resolutions that are so anti-kids, anti-family and anti-education that it’s hard to believe these folks actually have any child’s best interest at heart. The Biden administration is all-in with the radical union agenda that is infecting our schools.

The NEA has gone so far as to begin to compile an enemies list to include opposition research on the top 25 groups they see as resisting their radical agenda. That includes the founders and members of the groups and the local chapters.

Can CNN revamp its image? Leadership at the cable channel has shown intent to remake the brand into one of news, balance and quality reporting. CNN drifted far from that image long ago. It will take time, but if it can succeed, would make a welcome change to the current offerings from mainstream media.

California’s Governor Gavin Newsom recently attacked Florida and Governor DeSantis with ads trying to draw Florida businesses to the Golden State. He claims Florida is restricting the freedom of businesses and that his state is a better option. I’d say the pandemic and attempts at mandating all kinds of things for its residents tells a different tale. California has also restricted its state dollars from being spent in states that have been deemed to discriminate in LGBT policies. The arrogance of those policies and Newsom’s family vacation have the governor IN A HANDBASKET at 6:25.

Our candidate interviews begin Monday on BML. We begin with County Commission D-2 where one of Monday’s two invitees will be with us. Wednesday will feature the other two candidates in that D-2 primary.
