Ruling Out: 15 Week Abortion Ban Temporarily Blocked

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Florida's 15-week abortion ban is deemed unconstitutional after a court ruling today. A judge says he'll issue a temporary injunction for the law soon. Planned Parenthood and other health centers filed the challenge earlier this month and won less than 24-hours before the law was set to take effect. The state is expected to file an appeal against the ruling.

Man Shot By Deputies In Polk County

(Winter Haven, FL)-- A man’s been hospitalized after he was shot by deputies in Polk County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Winter Haven. The sheriff's office says Brent Conley was wanted for stealing a motorcycle and a gun, and when he was approached by two detectives, he pulled a loaded gun on them. One detective shot the 31-year-old, who's in critical but stable condition. 

Deadly Deputy-Involved Shooting In Pinellas County

(Safety Harbor, FL)-- A man considered armed and dangerous is dead after he was shot by a deputy in Pinellas County. The shooting happened yesterday afternoon in Safety Harbor. Clearwater Police say Tampa's Robert Hubbard was wanted for a carjacking Wednesday in Hillsborough County and a robbery attempt in Pasco County later that day. When the 43-year-old was spotted driving in Pinellas County yesterday, he took off and led deputies on a chase. When the chase ended, Hubbard allegedly pointed a gun at four deputies, who shot and killed him. 

Brevard Firefighter Gets Help From State Leader

(Brevard County, FL) -- A Brevard firefighter is gaining support from the state's Chief Financial Officer and Fire Marshal during his court battle. Roger Williams is trying to get coverage for PTSD treatment after serving the county for 23-years. CFO Jimmy Patronis says new legislation was meant to expand care for first responders, not limit it. He says the judge's ruling against Williams goes against the legislature's intent to increase mental health coverage.

Court Denies Laundrie Family's Motion To Dismiss Lawsuit

(New Port, FL)-- The family of Brian Laundrie will face a jury. A Sarasota County judge denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuit filed by the family of his former fiancé Gabby Petito. Her family is accusing the Laundrie parents of knowing that their son killed Petito. Her body was found weeks after the couple went on a cross-country road trip last year. The lawsuit claims his family put out a false statement and tried to help their son escape.

Teachers Concerned Over State's New Education Laws

(Tallahassee, FL)-- Some Florida teachers are concerned about the state's new education laws as they prepare for the upcoming school year. The Florida Department of Education says it's holding a series of conferences around the state this summer to teach the newly appointed civics initiative. However, teachers think the new push is one-sided and should also teach opposing views. DeSantis signed a bill last year putting more than 100-million dollars toward new standards for students up to 12th grade.

Moms For Liberty Volusia Declines Endorsing School Board Candidate

(DeLand, FL)-- A parental rights group won't be backing a candidate in a school board race in Volusia County. Moms for Liberty Volusia announced Wednesday it won't endorse anyone in the District 5 race. The organization had a planned to hold a candidate's forum last night with Incumbent Ruben Colon and challenger Fred Lowry, but it was canceled. Lowry says he had a family event to attend. The group's secretary tells the News Journal no forum, no endorsement. Moms for Liberty has endorsed candidates in the District One and District Three races. 

Girl Bitten By Shark In Taylor County

(Perry, FL)-- A child is hurt after getting bitten by a shark in Taylor County. It happened yesterday afternoon at Keaton Beach while the girl was scalloping with her family in five-foot deep water near Grassy Island. The sheriff's office says a family member reportedly jumped into the water and beat the nine-foot shark to get it to release the girl. She was taken to shore and flown to a Tallahassee hospital with serious injuries. There's no word on what kind of shark it was.

Passenger Rebooks Flight At Airport After 4 Hours On Phone

(Denver, CO)-- An American Airlines passenger drove 45 minutes to Denver International Airport to rebook a flight after spending four wasted hours on the phone.The Wall Street Journal reports Brian Driver needed to rebook his flight home after a business trip to Denver ended early. He told The Journal he first tried to switch his flight using American's mobile service and website but couldn't. When he called customer service he was given a call-back time of eight hours. He called back the next morning and was on hold for three hours and 45 minutes. That's when he drove to the airport. American told The Journal that weather and air traffic control issues were the reason for long hold times earlier this month.
