Florida To See Potential Influx Of Woman Seeking Abortions

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida could see an influx of woman traveling out-of-state to get an abortion. The state currently has the third-highest abortion rate in the country. Georgia is known to take in woman seeking abortions, but if a judge soon rules to ban abortions after six-weeks more people could turn to the Sunshine state. Many southern states are now able to ban the procedure since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade last week.

Rep. Franklin Criticizes 'Political Violence' In Polk County

(Washington, DC)-- A Polk County congressman is criticizing what he calls an act of political violence. Vandalism was found this weekend in Winter Haven at the LifeChoice Pregnancy Center, including graffiti that reads, 'abortion for all,' 'we're coming to get you,' and 'your time is up.' Fifteenth District Republican Scott Franklin said yesterday he wants the Justice Department to investigate the incident as domestic terrorism. He adds our community won't be intimidated by cowards who resort to politically motivated violence. 

HillsCo Man Pleads Guilty To January 6th Charges

(Washington, DC)-- A Hillsborough County man could get decades in prison for his actions in the January 6th violence. The Justice Department announced on Monday that Seffner's Mitchell Todd Gardner, the Second, pleaded guilty to assaulting law enforcement officers. Federal prosecutors say the 34-year-old threw a pepper spray device at officers, which caused two officers to cough for an extended period and also burned their eyes. He also handed another rioter a table leg, which was used to assault police officers, and the DOJ says Gardner cheered when one rioter threw a fire extinguisher at officers. He'll be sentenced in October, and he could get up to 45 years.

Road Rage Shooting In Seminole County

(Oviedo, FL)-- A shooting in Seminole County appears to be an act of road-rage. The sheriff's office says a woman was shot last night in Oviedo near SR 434 and Alexandria Boulevard. She was taken to the hospital, but there's no word on her condition. A witness tells News 6 the woman and someone in another car were throwing water bottles and a soda can at each other when she was shot. Oviedo Police say two men were taken into custody, but no charges have been announced. 

Orange County Man Arrested For Bank Robbery Has Prior History

(Belle Isle, FL)-- An Orange County man police call a seasoned bank robber appears to be at it again. Belle Isle Police yesterday arrested Nacoe [[ nuh-koe-ee ]] Ray Brown for allegedly robbing the McCoy Federal Credit Union on McCoy Road of an undisclosed amount of money.The 53-year-old has previously served almost 20 years for other bank robberies, and police say he told officers he couldn't resist the demons. He also reportedly said he needed the money for a movie he was making. 

Teachers Worried About New Civics Guidelines

(Fort Lauderdale, FL)-- Some teachers are worried about the new way the state wants them to teach civics. A three-day training session was held last week in Broward County on the Civics Literacy Excellence Initiative. A Fort Lauderdale High School teacher says the session was very skewed with a very strong Christian fundamentalist view, and she called it straight-up indoctrination.A Nova High School teacher found the session disturbing because it attempted to censor and propagandize particular points of view toward religion and slavery. A Hialeah Gardens High School teacher tells the Times/Herald the governor is trying to demonize public education, and that's going to do so much damage to our culture in the long run. 

FPL Using Drones During Hurricane Season

(Fernandina Beach, FL) -- Florida Power and Light is upgrading its technology for hurricane season. Officials are showcasing how they will keep the lights on for its five-millions customers during good and bad weather. The company says they are putting power lines in the ground and using drones to access the energy grid. They are also going to improve main power lines to withstand extreme winds. FPL conducts more than two-hundred drone flights every day to reduce outages.

Vegan Human Flesh Burger Wins Award

(France) -- A new vegan burger that tastes like human flesh is bringing home awards at the Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity.  Complaints that vegan meat never tasted like beef propelled a Swedish company to create a plant-based meat that instead tastes like human flesh, and it seems to be paying off. They took care to make the burger as "lifelike" as possible, using soy, mushrooms, wheat proteins, and a "mystery spice mix". The company's brand leader said they were all very proud that their hard work is being rewarded and guaranteed no humans were hurt in the making of their patties.
