Watchdog Group Discusses Implications Of Gillum's Indictment
(Tallahassee, FL)-- Andrew Gillum's arrest is giving Tallahassee a black eye. That's what Integrity Florida Research Director Ben Wilcox said yesterday after the former mayor was indicted on Wednesday for wire fraud and conspiracy. Wilcox says it seems like Gillum was involved in a basic pay-to-play corruption scheme offering government contracts for campaign contributions. Gillum has denied the charges. Wilcox also tells WCTV this could hurt Tallahassee financially because nobody wants to bring a new business to a city with pay-to-play corruption.
DeSantis Hails SCOTUS Gun Ruling

The court yesterday expanded gun rights by making it easier for people to carry concealed handguns in public. Governor Ron DeSantis says the ruling ensures a government bureaucrat won't stymie your ability to exercise your constitutional rights. He adds the court definitely made the right decision.
Teen Killed In Volusia County Shooting
(Daytona Beach, FL)-- A teenager is dead after a shooting in Volusia County. Nineteen-year-old Telan [[TEE-lann]] Mann was killed yesterday morning in Daytona Beach near Oak Tree Circle and Forest Glen Boulevard. No arrest has been announced, and there's no word on a motive.
Teen Arrested For Threatening To Kill Orlando Police Officer
(Orlando, FL)-- A teenager is accused of plotting to kill an Orlando police officer. A 16-year-old boy from Virginia was allegedly driving a stolen SUV when he was arrested Wednesday in St. Johns County. Police say he sent inappropriate photos to a 13-year-old girl he met online, and after learning police were investigating, he drove to Florida to kill the sex crimes detective and possibly the girl's parents. Police Chief Orlando Rolon says the boy researched how to make a pipe bomb, and a piece of pipe was found in the SUV.
Financial Advisor Sentenced For Defrauding Clients
(Miami, FL)-- A Broward County man is going to prison for stealing millions from those who hired him as a financial advisor. The US Justice Department announced yesterday that German Nino was sentenced on Wednesday to six-and-a-half years in federal prison. While working for UBS Financial Services, Nino, over a six-year period, illegally transferred close to six million dollars from the accounts of three clients to himself. Prosecutors say he used most of the money to pay for his extramarital affairs. As part of the settlement, Nino must give up his home in Ave Maria.
Brevard County Couple Facing Animal Cruelty Charges
(Cocoa, FL)-- A Brevard County couple is accused of animal cruelty. Cocoa's Javier Davis and his wife, Jamie, were arrested Wednesday after three dogs were found in what deputies call inhumane conditions. The sheriff's office describes the floor of the home on Beck Drive as containing a large quantity of feces. Deputies say there was also a lack of water, and the dogs appeared to have mange. The dogs were removed from the home, and veterinarians are taking care of them.
Florida Leads U.S. In Bike-Related Deaths
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Florida is leading the nation for the number of deadly bike accidents. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles says the state reported 183 fatal crashes last year. The latest report shows as of last week at least 79 have happened this year. Officials say these kinds of incidents continue to go up year after year.
CO Man Accused Of Stealing Patrol Car, Responding To 911 Call
(Undated) -- A Colorado man is facing a long list of charges after authorities say he stole a patrol vehicle from a sheriff's station and later responded to a 911 call. It happened earlier this week near Lake George. Jeremiah Taylor stands accused of breaking into a Park County Sheriff's substation and taking off with a car. An emergency domestic violence in progress call came over the radio and officials say Taylor was the first to show up. Dispatchers alerted the real deputies who were then involved in a high-speed chase with the suspect. That resulted in a crash and one officer firing a round at Taylor who was tased and ended up being hospitalized with what were described as self-inflicted knife wounds.
