Andrew Gillum Facing Federal Charges
(Tallahassee, FL) -- Former Democratic candidate for governor Andrew Gillum has been released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty to a series of federal charges. He was arrested by the FBI yesterday on a 21-count indictment yesterday connected to his 2018 run for Florida governor. The former Tallahassee mayor is also charged with lying to federal agents. The 42-year-old Gillum and Sharon Lettman-Hicks allegedly conspired to commit wire fraud by unlawfully soliciting and obtaining funds through false and fraudulent promises. They reportedly used a third party to divert some of the money to a company Lettman-Hicks owned, and she then gave the money to Gillum, disguising it as payroll payments.Prosecutors say Gillum used the money for personal expenses. Gillum says the charges against him are political.
Titusville Police To Release Body Cam Video Of Deadly Shooting
(Titusville, FL) --We may learn more today about what led to a deadly police shooting in Brevard County. Titusville Police are expected to release body cam video of a shooting in December that killed James Lowery. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump said this month the shooting was unjustified because Lowery was shot in the back of the head while he was running away.Police were investigating a report that a man was assaulting a woman, and Lowery ran as police approached even though he was not involved. The officer who shot Lowery is charged with manslaughter.
Husband Charged In Wife's Death
(Altamonte Springs, FL) -- Six months after a Seminole County man was arrested for domestic violence against his wife, he's now accused of killing her. Altamonte Springs Police arrested Xichen [[zee-chen]] Yang on Tuesday for first-degree murder after his wife was found dead in their home at the Charter Pointe Apartments on Ballard Street. Police say the 21-year-old Yang told them he slit his wife's throat, carried her to the bathtub, put on her favorite music and held her hand as she bled out. According to the arrest report, Yang was upset that his wife burned his passport, and while he didn't have to kill her, he was raised to go all the way. He's due in court today.
Deadly Shooting In Lake County
(Leesburg, FL) --A man is dead after a shooting in Lake County. It happened yesterday afternoon in Leesburg on Whitney Road. The sheriff's office says Fruitland Park's James Carlton and the 26-year-old victim were in separate cars when Carlton opened fire and hit the victim in the head. He was taken to the hospital where he passed away. The 57-year-old Carlton fled the scene before he was arrested at a bar in Marion County and charged with murder.
Judge Hears Arguments In Petito-Laundrie Lawsuit
(Venice, FL) --It's now up to a judge to decide if a legal battle between Gabby Petito's family and Brian Laundrie's family can continue. Petito's parents were in a Sarasota County courtroom yesterday after filing a lawsuit against Laundrie's parents. The Petitos accuse the Laundries of causing pain and anguish by misleading them, through statements from their lawyer, into believing Gabby was still alive even though the Laundries knew the 22-year-old was dead. Investigators believe Brian killed Gabby while on a cross-country van trip before he took his own life. The lawyer for Laundrie's parents asked the judge to dismiss the suit, but the judge says he may not issue a ruling for a couple weeks.
Two Teens Accused Of Shooting Dozens With Pellet Gun
(Pembroke Pines, FL) -- A new social media challenge has two teenagers facing battery charges in Broward County. Pembroke Pines Police arrested Andrew Morales and Ryan Quiroz [[key-ROZE]] on Tuesday for allegedly shooting at about 25 people with pellet guns. Police believe the two 18-year-olds were doing this as part of TikTok's Orbeez Challenge. While teens might think it's a fun prank, police say water pellets can cause serious damage and injury. According to police, some victims were shot in the face, and one is a senior citizen.
Tesla Bursts Into Flames After Three Weeks In Junkyard
(Rancho Cordova, CA) -- A Tesla Model S that had been sitting in a California junkyard for weeks is no more after it spontaneously burst into flames. The car had been damaged in an accident earlier this month and was sitting untouched in a Rancho Cordova junkyard when it erupted into a massive fire.Each time firefighters would put it out, the car's battery would re-ignite and start flaming all over again.Eventually officials had to use a tractor to create a massive pit in the ground where they submerged the entire car in water. It took over 45-hundred gallons of water and a dozen firefighters to extinguish the flames.This is the latest in a string of incidents where Tesla's have randomly caught fire.
