Media Day: Podcasts, Radio & History

It’s media Day on BML. We are all consuming it, all the time. From the TV and radio that dominated our viewing and listening time most of our lives to audio and video podcasts, media surrounds us. In today’s America that means confrontation on many fronts. The recent Joe Rogan controversy with Spotify is the current highlight. Rogan is speaking out. Is it just possible the biggest voice in podcasting is waking up the rest of media? Our first hour will tell the tale.

Media battles play out over many of Florida’s constitutional amendment drives. It’s a bad way to make law, and those who pursue these efforts know that. They use media to take advantage of the uninformed voter. On that front, the troubling sports betting petition drive has failed to meet the threshold to get the matter on the ballot. The out of state gambling interests pushed hard with questioned methods and could not get it done. It may have been their best chance as the legislature is working to make such alleged citizen initiatives more difficult.

Dave Bowman joins us in hour three with Dave Does History. Today it’s media history. We’ll go back to 1978 and WKRP in Cincinnati. Howard Hesseman, WKRP’s Dr. Johnny Fever, passed away this week. In 90 episodes, over four seasons, WKRP made us laugh and gave us an inside look at radio that just may be more accurate then we’d like to believe. As usual, Dave has a plan it covers more TV about radio and takes us full circle back to Joe Rogan…where our day begins on BML.
