State Board Rules Against Orange And Brevard School Districts

(Tallahassee, FL) -- Two local school districts are facing repercussions for their decisions to require masks. The Florida Board of Education yesterday ruled that eight districts across the state, including Orange and Brevard, violated a state law that bans mask mandates. The board recommended cutting funding for the districts. The districts have 48 hours to comply with state law to avoid the penalty. 

Volusia County Relaxes Mask Mandate For Adults

(DeLand, FL) -- A change in Volusia County's school mask mandate is now in effect. Superintendent Dr. Scott Fritz announced yesterday that adults no longer have to wear masks. This applies to employees, parents, volunteers, vendors and other visitors. It goes into effect immediately.  

Sarasota Business Sues State To Require Vaccine Passports

(Sarasota, FL) -- A Sarasota County business is in a legal showdown with the state. Bead Abode owner Kirsten Boyer is suing the Florida Department of Health over its ban on vaccine passports. Boyer offers jewelry classes in her store, and she says students are leaving because they don't feel safe sitting next to unvaccinated people. Lawyers on both sides argued before a judge yesterday, but no ruling was announced, and the two sides will be back in court next week. 

Deadly Shooting In Volusia County

(Holly Hill, FL) -- A woman is dead after a shooting that appeared to be part of a suicide pact in Volusia County. It happened yesterday in Holly Hill at a shooting range called Hot Shot on North Nova Road. Police say a man and the woman went into the range together and rented a gun that he used to shoot her in the head before shooting himself. He survived and was taken to the hospital, but there's no word on his condition.

Loyd Trial Starts Today

(Orlando, FL) -- An accused cop killer takes a step closer to justice today. Markeith Loyd is set to go on trial for killing Orlando Police Lieutenant Debra Clayton four years ago. His lawyers are expected to use the insanity defense.If convicted, the 45-year-old Loyd could get the death penalty. He's already serving life for killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend five years ago.

Two Teens Arrested For Threat To Martin County High School 

(Martin County, FL) --  Two teens are under arrest in connection to a threat made to Martin County High School. Police say the suspects posted the threat on social media Wednesday and detectives found a gun in one of the teens' bedrooms. They also say after another teen told their parents about the post, it was reported to authorities. The teens face several charges including possession of a firearm by a minor. Neither child is in the county school system.  

Maryland Police Say Murder Suspect Believed Brother Was Killing People With COVID Vaccine

(Ellicott City, MD) -- A Maryland man accused of killing three people last week allegedly wanted to confront his pharmacist brother about administering the COVID-19 vaccine. According to Howard County charging documents, Jeffrey Burnham told his mother he wanted to confront his brother about the government poisoning people with the vaccine, repeatedly saying "Brian knows something." Burnham is charged in the killings of Brian Robinette and his sister-in-law Kelly Sue Robinette in their home in Ellicott City. The 46-year-old is being held without bond in Allegheny County where he faces charges in the murder of 83-year-old Rebecca Reynolds, described as a classmate of his mother. Burnham's mother told police she was concerned about her son's mental health.
