Pilot Ditches Vintage Warplane In Drink Off Cocoa Beach

(Cocoa Beach, FL) -- The pilot of a vintage war plane makes an emergency landing just off shore at Cocoa Beach. The incident happened Saturday afternoon during the Cocoa Beach Air Show. The World War II era Grumman Avenger torpedo bomber was performing in a warbird event when mechanical problems prompted the pilot to set the plane down near the beach. The plane has been flying again since January 2020 after it underwent restoration. No one was hurt.

Small Plane Crash Lands In Venice Pond

(Venice, FL) -- A small plane crash landed in a Venice pond.  The Sarasota County Sheriff's office says the plane was having engine problems when it made an emergency landing Saturday evening. The plane landed in the pond at Pelican Pointe Golf and Country Club on Derbyshire Drive. One of the two people on board is in the hospital for observation. The single engine Cessna is registered to Florida Flight Training Center on Airport Avenue East in Venice. The FAA is investigating.

Cruise Company Reps Meet With Fed COVID-19 Specialists

(Washington, D.C.) -- The executives of several cruise companies meet with government COVID-19 specialists on the issue of re-opening.  Monday's meeting included Carnival, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean cruise line CEOs, members of the White House COVID-19 response team and health officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. On Thursday, Norwegian entered a request to the CDC to allow cruise activity to resume in early June. So far, the CDC hasn't set its date for when the U.S. based cruise industry companies can resume commercial sailing activity.

NASA Moon Landing Contract Goes To SpaceX

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- NASA's manned moon mission is to be handled by SpaceX. Friday, NASA announced SpaceX gets the nod for a three-billion-dollar contract. The effort is part of NASA's plan to put astronauts back on the surface of the moon in 2024. The new exploration program is being called.

Space Station Destined Astronaut Crew Arrives At Kennedy Space Center

(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- NASA crew members prepare for the next mission to the International Space Station at the Kennedy Space Center. The astronauts, two Americans, one from France and one from Japan arrived at Cape Canaveral Friday. They will blast off in a SpaceX Falcon Nine rocket and a SpaceX capsule that have already flown to space last year. LIftoff is scheduled for Thursday at 06:11-a.m. eastern time.  

South Beach Celebrates First Curfew-Free Weekend

(Miami, FL) -- Those visiting South Beach can celebrate later than usual. This weekend was the first in over a year without a curfew in place, and many took advantage. A visitor from Wisconsin says it doesn't make sense to come all the way down here just to be in your hotel room by 10:00. Another visitor was celebrating a friend's birthday, and she tells CBS4 News they were planning to stay out as late as possible.

Flagler County Woman Reports Baby Dinosaur In Backyard

(Palm Coast, FL) -- A Flagler County woman is at a loss to explain an image caught on her surveillance camera. Palm Coast's Cristina Ryan says the video shows what appears to be a baby dinosaur scurrying through her yard early one recent morning. She says it doesn't look like a bird because it appears to have front legs. Ryan jokes to Fox 35 maybe she has watched Jurassic Park too many times, but she sees a raptor or other small dinosaur.  

Texas TSA Finds Crystal Meth Inside Burrito

(Houston, TX) -- Travel authorities in Texas say a passenger was caught trying to smuggle drugs inside a breakfast burrito. TSA agents at Houston's William P. Hobby Airport noticed the large burrito during an X-ray scan of the passenger's luggage. They asked the individual to unwrap it even though they insisted it was just a breakfast item. Officers then saw dark wrapping inside, which was later confirmed to be containing crystal meth. Cops seized the drugs and arrested the unidentified person.
