The Week That Was:

MONDAY

·Several months ago the Parkland perpetual victim, David Hogg, decided he had big boy pants and was ready to take on running a corporation. Today, Boss Hogg is no longer a boss, not that he ever was.

·It seems race is now the factor most cited for any perceived ill. And since the president decided the former mayor a pothole filled city was the best guy for the Transportation Secretary job, race is now the reason for America’s infrastructure problems. With Boss Hogg available, maybe the president can consider a switch? It’s IN A HANDBASKET this morning.

·In today’s world it seems the adage “no good deed goes unpunished” is truer than ever. After reasonable, thinking conservatives stood up for School Board Member Jennifer Jenkins and the sanctity of her home, the WOKE activist elected official could not help herself as she blamed people other than the stupid protesters for what went on at her home last week. Of deeper concern, because her lashing out was expected behavior, is her implication that concerned parents sharing information about issues of concern is a problem.

·Today we’ll explore Dave’s fascination with presidential portraits, race and THE RONA and medicine in general as well as the perfect job for the two of us!

TUESDAY

·Have you been back to church? Do you face obstacles in doing so? Chances are they aren’t like what some Canadian Christians are facing. It’s a sobering open to our Tuesday. And, as people gain confidence in the ability to have “normal” activities, IN A HANDBASKET gives us the latest warnings from the Fear Monger in Chief.

·Tensions around law enforcement are as heightened as I have seen them in my adult life. Any situation can result in a community meltdown. In what may be news to some, cops are human and will make mistakes. A recent one was fatal for a motorist who had resisted attempts to take him into custody. The cop’s mistake was using the wrong tool. The officer thought she was deploying a Taser. Instead she had pulled her service weapon and shot the suspect. Before that could be known, the public and the city’s mayor were in an uproar. These situations are fast, furious and yes, such a mistake is most certainly possible. It involves tactics, equipment placement and usage and it’s a tragedy all the way around.

·Riots ensued, but you can’t call them riots. The mayor wants the cop fired and the city manager was fired for saying the cop deserved (and would get) due process. Elected officials are acting in fear of the communities they serve. Maybe they should be. People are reactionary and irrational. They’ve also never done the job that requires putting your life on the line for a community that in this case seems to hate the cops for doing so.

WIDE OPEN WEDNESDAY

·What we didn’t get to in Tuesday’s discussion of the police shooting and ensuing riots in Brooklyn Center, MN was the responsibility of the elected officials in handling situations like this. They are making them worse. They do it without knowledge or understanding and it tells me we aren’t getting the cream of the crop when we put these people in place.

·The city manager was fired, the police chief and officer involved in the shooting have resigned, yet that’s not enough for the raging mob. Other cops are now targets simply for serving their communities. Could this case be a reason for appeal in the Minneapolis trial of the officer in the George Floyd case?

THURSDAY

·British humor is not for everybody. I got hooked on Monty Python early in my funny-bone development. Apparently the reporter covering John Cleese’s recent comments did not get it at all. Then, Jason Whitlock has been suspended from Twitter…I love his reaction. These stories are IN A HANDBASKET this morning.

·If the FoxNews report is accurate, Congressman Matt Gaetz may want to be seeking the best plea deal he can get. If someone’s been an informant for over a year, and the report says Gaetz’ pal and former Seminole Tax Collector has, some useful information has been provided and Gaetz could be in real trouble. Former Brooklyn Center police officer Kim Potter has been charged in the Daunte Wright shooting while no charges will be filed against the Capitol Police officer who shot and killed Ashli Babbitt.

·We closed our day talking with Florida Today’s new Engagement Editor John Torres. John’s been a regular guest on BML and as we renew that tradition we’ll talk just how the Editorial pages work, John’s transition to the new job and a major development in one of John’s Murder on the Space Coast investigations.

FRIDAY

·There’s a difference in being told you may do something and being told you must do something. One is permission, the other is a command. It seems the roles are reversed in our first two stories of the day.Disney, long known for mandating exacting standards of appearance and conduct for employees, has backed off and now allows personal expression as opposed to the Disney way.

·IN A HANDBASKET we’ll find an institution that should have no say in a states governmental decisions dictating to states what their laws and policies should be. The NCAA has gone out of its lane and lived beyond its usefulness.

·County Commissioner John Tobia has proposed 24 hour liquor sales for Brevard citing his stance on freedom and less government. Brevard’s bar owners are speaking out and you may be surprised where they are on the issue.

·DC Democrats are considering packing the Supreme Court. It’s not a great idea. Could it be that they fear never winning another election after the damage they’re doing in this administration? Would it begin a cascading effect that would mean when the Republicans regain control that we’ll have to add more to better the odds? It’s a dumb idea…and why do we need more than 3 justices on the high court?3 seemed to work very well for Diana Ross!

·Representative Tyler Sirois is with us at 8am to close a week where the governor got a new bill to crack down on violent protests, the state sued the Biden administration over the cruise industry and the legislature is still working to protect women athletes.
