Three Dead In Murder-Suicide In Brevard County
(Melbourne, FL) -- Three people are dead after what appears to be a murder-suicide in Brevard County. Melbourne Police say Stephen Hewson shot his step-daughter and her adult son yesterday morning before taking his own life at a home on Forest Run Drive. Hewson and his grandson, Zerric Miller, died at the scene. Hewson's step-daughter, Nicole Miller, died at the hospital.
Cult Leader Pleads No Contest To Murder
(Gainesville, FL) -- An Alachua County cult leader is taking responsibility for the deaths of two children. Anna Young pleaded no contest yesterday to murder and manslaughter in the deaths of Emon Harper and Katonya Jackson. Their deaths date back to the 1980s when the 79-year-old Young led the House of Prayer for All People as Mother Anna. The two-year-old Jackson died of a seizure after witnesses say Young beat her, and the two-year-old Harper was starved to death.
Florida Health Department Permits EMTs To Administer COVID Vaccines
(Tampa, FL) -- Emergency medical technicians in Florida can now administer COVID-19 vaccines following a new rule from the state's health department. The emergency rule was created to help the state get more shots in the arms of Floridians. Senator Rick Scott tweeted yesterday the CDC is reporting Florida will receive an additional 417-thousand-430 doses of the vaccine next week. He says this will bring the state's total to nearly three-point-four million doses.
Men Accused Of Posing As U.S. Marshals To Avoid Wearing Masks
(Deerfield Beach, FL) -- Two men are facing federal charges after flashing fake badges to avoid wearing face coverings. Walter Wayne Brown Junior and Gary Brummett were arrested last week on charges of impersonating a federal officer. The two men reportedly pretended to be U.S. marshals so they would not have to wear a face mask at the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort. Brummett is also accused of showing employees a card stating he is medically exempt from wearing a face covering.
Mars Rover To Attempt Landing
(Pasadena, CA) -- NASA's latest Martian rover will land on Mars this afternoon, and it looks to be on target. NASA's Al Chen says a lot can go wrong during what's called E-D-L, Entry, Descent, and Landing. If Perseverance survives, it will spend the next two years looking for more evidence of ancient microbial life. The rover is the third probe to reach Mars in the past two weeks. Other missions launched by China and the United Arab Emirates recently went into orbit around the Red Planet.
Pinellas County Mayors Want To Ban Electric Bikes
(Undated) -- An effort is underway in Pinellas County to ban a popular mode of transportation. Several mayors in beach communities said yesterday they're working on proposals targeting electric bikes and scooters. North Redington Beach Mayor Bill Queen says the bikes and scooters are a safety issue, but an e-bike seller in Indian Shores thinks a ban goes too far. Tampa Bay EBikes' Matthew White tells ABC Action News he hopes mayors will allow the ebikes to operate but with certain safety restrictions.
New Hampshire Man Accused Of Leaving Rabbit Heads On Woman's Car
(Manchester, NH) -- A New Hampshire man has surrendered to the authorities for allegedly leaving severed rabbit heads on a woman's car. Manchester Police say the victim told them that Estevan Hincapie repeatedly texted her threatening messages and said he left a surprise for her, which led to the discovery of the animal parts. It wasn't clear how the two knew each other, but authorities are calling the ordeal a domestic-related incident. Hincapie is now facing charges of criminal threatening and cruelty to animals.
