Boeing 737 Operator Giving Plane Passengers $2500, Apology
(Jacksonville, FL) -- Each passenger on the plane that skidded into a river last week is being given 25-hundred dollars. The Boeing 737 went off the end of a runway at Naval Air Station Jacksonville with 143 people on board. Miami Air International was the operator of the plane. They apologized to the passengers, all of which were rescued Friday night. A dog and two cats are dead after that incident.Rescuers had previously been unable to get to the pets in the cargo area because that section of plane was under water.The NTSB says it may take 18-months to know for sure what caused the mishap.
SpaceX Flight Arrives At International Space Station
(Cape Canaveral, FL) -- A SpaceX flight is at the International Space Station after lifting off this weekend. The Dragon capsule is dropping off supplies and bringing back science experiments. It's the second visit to the ISS for the recycled rocket.
Kissimmee Police Officer Reprimanded
(Kissimmee, FL) -- A police officer is accused of terrifying students at a school in Osceola County. The mother of a girl at Mater Palms K-through-8 Charter School says a Kissimmee police officer put three girls in handcuffs in January. The girls were in detention and were not charged with any crimes. Police say Officer Antonio Johnson was trying to show the girls the consequences of illegal acts, but the police chief recently said Johnson went too far and his actions were inappropriate.
Bystanders Rescue Residents From Fire
(Tampa, FL) -- Bystanders are credited with a life-saving rescue in Tampa. A second-floor unit at the Parkview Apartments caught fire yesterday afternoon in North Tampa. Witnesses grabbed a ladder to help a man and woman escape with only minor injuries. There's no word on a cause, and the couple is displaced, but firefighters say the outcome would have been much worse if it wasn't for the bystanders.
Report Alleges Marlins Exec 'Engaged In Verbal Abuse'
(Miami, FL) -- A Marlins official is is accused of some less than flattering behavior. TheAthletic.com reported yesterday that executive Gary Denbo verbally abuses and fat shames team employees. One alleged incident involves the team's former minor league affiliate in Greensboro, North Carolina. Sources tell the website Denbo was so upset about dogs used as batboys being in the clubhouse last year that he berated a 50-something-year-old attendant and demanded the dogs be removed.
Texas A&M Engineers Working On Flying Motorcycle
(College Station, TX) -- A team of engineers at Texas A&M University is working on a flying motorcycle. The team, known as Texas A&M Harmony, is competing in a two-million-dollar contest sponsored by Boeing. The criteria call for engineers to develop flying machines that are quiet, small enough to fit in the garage, and capable of carrying a rider 20 miles before recharging or refueling. The College Station team has won 70-thousand-dollars in the contest's design and prototype phases. In the final phase, teams will fly full-scale designs early next year.
Woman Busted For CIA Trespass
(Langley, VA) -- A woman is under arrest after allegedly trying to trespass on CIA headquarters for several days. Officials say Jennifer G. Hernandez tried to enter through the main vehicle entrance at Langley, Virginia a total of four times on April 22nd and May 1st through the 3rd, saying she applied for a job and was invited by a recruiter. When Hernandez was denied the fourth time by a CIA officer, she reportedly asked for her ID card to be returned and said she needed to speak with "Agent Penis." She now faces a misdemeanor charge after refusing to leave.
